Removing and reinstalling seat heaters

Has anyone torn apart the stock seats and removed the heating units? Can these be theoretically installed in aftermarket seats? I have one of my seats about half apart (I removed the wiring loom with minimal cutting) but dont want to go farther if removing the heating unit is useless or permanently destructive.

Experienced responses on the specific topic only please. Thanks.

I don't have any experience in removing the heaters since I have cloth seats. From what I can see in the service manual though they are just pads situated in between the seat cushion and the cover. Take the cover off and you should be able to take out the heater.
