Rear Trunk Light/Sensor? Is it possible easily?
Ok one thing that's really starting to annoy me is not knowing when my rear trunk is open!
I've driven home twice from work only to notice that it was open upon arriving home (not UP just unlocked and able to be lifted by hand).
I'm not sure if I'm hitting the key remote, or if it's popping open automatically (my guess is I'm hitting the remote).
Is there any sort of aftermarket mod, or even a simple custom job that someone has done which would show me how/where to place some sort of sensor in the trunk, and of course some sort of light indicator ?
Or better yet tie it into some existing dash light or overhead light, thinking perhaps a blinker of some sort?

Something I noticed on my shinka is if you have the trunk open at all and use the locking function of the key remote for the doors the yellow lights will not blink like they normally do when you lock or unlock the car. This is not very helpfull in the daytime as you can't really seem them anyway but is nice at night.

that is the same way with the regular 8's also. i drove around with my trunk lid cracked for 3 days. i just thought a fuse or something had blown and the lights weren't flashing.

If you press the lock button on the fob twice the horn with honk, indicating that all doors are closed and locked. If the horn does not honk then a door and or trunk lid is not closed. I make a habit of pushing the button twice til I here the horn especially if I been shopping and opening the trunk more often.

Possible.....
...it is quite easy, if you are intent on doing it.
You would find a nice light/led/flasher/whatever, give it power from the fuse, in the footwell box, marked 'room'. Then run a ground wire all the way to the back, to the wire between the light and its switch, when the switch turns on the trunk light, your led would flash on the dash. A better possibility might be to put a discrete buzzer in the trunk, powered from the light.
It would mean the usual problems of dash mounting your light, plus lifting the trim on the door sill to run wires. Probably have to remove the back seat (not near as scary as it sounds) to get at the trunk, then tap into your ground wire.
I can PM you the details, which wires you need, a diagram, etc. if you still want to tackle it.

Yeah....
....radio shack is probably the first place to start, if you don't have crap like that lying around.
A buzzer should probably have a switch inline, so you don't take the tire iron to it, when you get a punture! :D
The 'Shack' would probably have a simple 12v flashing L.E.D. kit you could drill into an inconspicuous hole, underdash, for a better result......

Unless someone else has already done something like this I think I'll have to rest on it a bit and come up with some alternatives... that buzzer sounds interesting.. perhaps I can find a way to only have it buzz if the trunk is just 'slightly' opened and an auto cutoff when it's fully open (so it doesn't go off for more than a second while actually putting stuff in the trunk).
Still have to think a bit more on it.
