Radio & Climate Control Display Died?

So the other day, i jumped in my car. While I was waiting for it to warm up a bit, i heard a pop from the speakers. And with that pop, the radio and climate control display lost all power. And they won't come back on. At first i just assumed it was a fuse, but I checked all the fuses in the kick panel and all the fuses in the box under the hood, and they were all perfect. Thats when I got nervous. I did the aux input hack (www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8), now in theory, what could have happened is that my soldering job may have come undone. I haven't had time to take it apart and look yet, but I wonder what you guys think about this. Are there any other fuses anywhere? Worst case ill just take it all apart again, undo my hack, put it all back together, then bring it in, then when I get it back, go through the hack all over again, but thats goona be a real pain in the ***.

Anybody have any clues here? I've been real busy so I haven't had time to take anything apart and look at it. Not to mention its winter and I have no garage!

I had some one install XM Commander and the same thing happened. I will get with my tech who takes care of my car and see what he did to fix it.

I got a reply back from my friend who is a tech at mazda and who fixed mine from a shop installing xm commander in my car, it is as follows.

I don't remember exactly what it was on your car, but
it seems like it was the connector on the pc board for
the transfer harness. Tell him to pull out the radio,
on one side there is a channel, held in by 2 or 3
small phillips screws. That channel protects the
transfer harness. Check the small connector at the
front, and the larger one at the rear. He may also
need to loosen the audio unit from the front panel,
disconnect it all, then reconnect it. If he tried to
remove it, by prying, without removing the hidden
bolt, behind the dash, it's likely he flexed it, which
may have loosened the connection or cracked the pc
board.

Hope this helps, let me know!

yes check the connecter that is the Text display.. it may have poped out.. or you 24 pin harness connecter may have also poped out.. they both have to be seated very well..

so take it out and the pop it all back in.. then if it does not work , check your Aux in hack..
try removing it .. then if it work buy the pie box and save your warrenty

didnt you and have have a talk about the PIE box vs the 4 dollaar hack ?...

Yeah I'm the one that did the $4 hack instead of buying the $100 connector. The hack really isn't a big deal especially if you know how to solder, its just 3 little spots and your set. Anyway I'll have to take it out some warm day, i doubt it, but hopefully it is just a lose cable.

What was the ultimate resolution here? My install shop has run into the same problem after putting in my HU using Scud Runner's old DIN piece. No display, no radio, temperature control and fan work, but climate mode doesn't. I haven't had a chance to talk in length, but he says everything is seated on the radio (which was left intact) and the Bose amp is still attached. Ideas when he goes back in the AM?

Well I will have them check fuses. I am curious as to how it could have blown though. Quite literally, all that was done was remove the HU and then reinstall it.

then it shoud not be blown.. if its not connected all the way it will do this same thing..
but.. hard to say from here.. that connceter on the HU has to be seated all the way..
and also the Connecter for the Text readout to .. sounds like it may be a very simpl fix.. we hope..

Fingers crossed. Looking forward to having Sirius, iPod, scrolling text, RDS, clean loud sound, and a pretty display again. I've missed it since my Probe died 18 months ago. First driving my inlaws Lincoln, then the Mazda and the Blose system. I missed my toys

All is well. One of the connections wasn't as tight as he thought it was. Everything works, although they forgot to install my ground loop isolator so over the air reception isn't that great. They'll toss that in next week. I'll post pics of the system in a new thread, when I get to it.

My shop had the same problem after installing egt & boost guage for me.
It seems that the stereo face is on a circuit board to the rest of the unit & pulling the headunit out may have pulled these pins out far enough to not contact.
All they did was remove the headunits out again & pressed the faceplate & the headunit back together before re-installing the unit.
Thi shad them puzzled for an hour, because they didn't disconnect any wires during the install, they just needed to get to the back of the unit!!
Hope this helps out .
