Question About Adding an Amp
 

Hi Guys,

I have been searching through all the threads trying to find info. about adding an amp to my 8. I'm a little overwhelmed by all the info. I've been finding. If anyone can direct me a thread that may be already out there to answer my question or can directly answer my question that would be great. All I'm thinking about doing is adding an amp to my Bose system to give it a little more power and hopefully improve the sound. I just want the bass a little stronger and the highs a little clearer coming from all the speakers. How should the amp be connected to the system? Are there any considerations I should be thinking about? Where would the best location be for the amp to simplify the wiring? One last question...since I'm not replacing the HU, just adding to it, do I need to be concerned that the HU and Climate control unit is integrated? Any info. would be GREATLY appreciated.

you're not going to be able to run your Bose speakers off an external amp, the impedances are all funky, plus each door speaker has its own seperate amp anyway which only adds to the nightmare. If you want better sound then I'd suggest perhaps replacing the tweeters in your door (even though the Bose are almost more like a mid/high compared to a pure tweeter) and adding a sub. I rolled around for a while with the factory Bose and 2 SoundStream DVC 10's and just adding the subs made a huge difference, really filled things out nicely. (I'm building something new now, but it's a secret :naughty: )

it's probably here on the forum somewhere, just about any information you need in regards to playing with the factory stereo can be found here, just have to search and go with some trial and error on your search criteria :)

I wouldnt buy an amp to match those speakers didy... Like canayrx8, I added an amp and sub. Im at the point now that im just gonna upgrade thosespeakers and replace the bose amp altogether. If your anywhere near the Hyattsville Circuit city in MD swing on by.

The bose speakers suck, but the bose amp itself is not bad at all. (though it does apply an EQ curve to make up for the cheap speakers)

The real weakness of the Bose stereo is the fact they decided to use the cheapest possible speakers, rather then real quality stuff.

Replace the rear deck 6x9's first, followed by the front tweeters. Then see how it sounds to you. You can find drop in replacements that will work with the Bose system (the tweeters need to be fitted creatively, since you'll end up with smaller ones), so you're not spending too much money and time rewiring stuff. If you want more highs, replace the rear tweeters too. If you're anything like me, you will want a sub as well, which is where things get complicated. You'll have to pull the stock radio, attach a LOC to its outputs, then run the preamp level signal from the LOC back to your amp and sub.
