Yes you can. You shouldn't have to cut anything, just get a decent kit, bulbs just go in the housing per usual, and the wires plug right in, no cutting required. However the 8 uses H7 bulbs with spacers, and most hid kits dont come with them. Do what i did and go to the hardware store and get some rubber gromets that are the same circumference and thickness as the spacer to fill the void. The spacer is the black peice attached to the halogen bulbs

No problem, just make sure you take care of the lack of spacer. If you dont then the bulb wont seat properly and may move around/break/melt the housing interior. When you take off the spacer from your halogens you will see these 4 round "pillars" on the corners, just find a gromet that is that width and you are good to go. I found some over at sears for like 99 cents. If you need a pic of one let me know.

Yup, the rubber gromet is what you want. That will make up for the space lost from the H7 spacers.

Cjkim is talking about halogen projectors vs xenon projectors. The 8's that came with halogen bulbs have halogen projectors which have a different lens than xenon (hid) projectors. As long as you aim your bulbs properly there shouldn't be a problem, the only difference is that our visible light cutoff is a bit shorter than if we had xenon projectors.

There is a problem still. Halogen projector's aren't optically cut for xenon's. You'll more than likely produce glare above the cutoff no matter how you aim. Might not notice at first glance, but compare side by side to a xenon+xenon projector setup and the difference is obvious.
Not a real problem to you, but to oncoming traffic..

socal is full of people who install HID kits with halogen reflectors/projectors... pretty annoying to lowered cars.

Yep, I think the only fix would be to disassemble the headlight and replace the lens and the shim for the lens with one from the xenon assembly right? Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a xenon headlight assembly for the S2, but maybe i didn't look hard enough.

i don't see why it would be very difficult to replace the lens, as long as diameter / height is relatively close.

i think rotary rasp retrofitted e30 lenses in his.

Looks like there are couple people on google who like the e30 lenses, i guess S2k lenses are some of the (rare) best heh.

i take it these will work:

Yes you will def need to aim them. Line up in front of a wall about 25 feet away, block one light aim, and then block the other, aim. Should be all. If you cant find some gromets try calling the hid provider and see if they have some spaces for you. Sears should have some hose washers though at the least no?

While this is true, HIDs in halogen projectors are not nearly as bad as the lifted trucks who put HID kits in their reflector type headlights AND foglights.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the difference between HID and halogen projectors was the shape and placement of the cutoff shield as well as the optics of the reflective bowl behind the bulb. I think they use the same lens. I think the E30 lenses are actually from a halogen projector.

I think the HID lenses are a bit more clear because they don't need to worry about filtering the yellow discharge from halogen bulbs? Halogen projectors have a foggy look to them. That may be another difference, but yea i believe the other is the cutoff is higher on the halogen.
