Now I've been having this problem for quite a while.
I have a 2004, so it came with the ugly separated key fob & key.

The remote stopped working a while back, and I had to use the key for locking and unlocking.
Now granted, I know the remote is not out of battery or anything.

I got a 06- flip key from eBay and brought the car and the new key to the dealer and have them cut & program. (since only 1 key came with the car)

So when they tried to fix the whole remote thingy, they told me they key does not match the car blah blah blah.

I told them to program and cut it anyway, people have gotten it to work. And yes it did, the key did anyway. The remote didn't.

So. My question is. What else could there be going wrong in my car? Would it be the receiving part that's gone bad? Since both old and new remote didn't work? And if so, what should I tell the dealer and what parts need replacing?

Just wondering, how many of you are having or have had this problem?

I actually dunno if it'd fit in here or trouble shooting, since not everyone might have experience with this problem.

Lock/Unlock button on door works / Signals still flashes when door's getting locked by the keyhole, but no horn anymore

 

i am having the same problem, it might need an actual remote of the 04

My 2008 40th Anniversary has the same problem with the key fob. Doors lock when close to the driver's door, 90% of the time the FOB blinks red light but the car' horn doesn't beep to signal the security system is functional. Both of the KeyFObs respond the same way. Car has 24,000 miles only.
Any ideas on cause since both of the Key FOB's are fine?
