Pioneer AVIC-N1
I hae been quoted $400 (us) to have a custom center console peice made, and the Pioneer AVIC-N1 installed. That does not include the price of the head unit of course.
Anyone have any experience, or opinions about this unit? Seems pretty nice to me, but I am new to auto-entertainment...

jsut did one in a vw jetta:
my experinces with the unit is:
very good all in one unit, navigation function is nice, voice promting is nice, the performance monitoring feature is kinda neat, though not too useful...dvd play back is okay, picture quality could be better but its not bad...my only gripe is the low output voltage of the pre amp, but i fixed that with a line driver...
over all, I would say, if you are desiring a good navi headunit hat has lots of features at a great price, the avic N1 is hard to beat...

The $400 custom console plus install sounds good. The only thing to be concerned about is if they are going to cut your stock dash to make the custome console mounting. Rotarygod briefly talked about the problem with that as a solution, namely, the differences in heat expansion between the two materials... stock plastic and fiberglass. Over the long term it'll cause it to crack and warp.

So, you are saying that a NEW fiberglass piece could possibly crack? Or, are you saying that the new fiberglass piece will cause the surrounding dash to crack and warp?
