PIE Pioneer adapter?

I was looking into using the PIE Alpine adapter to use an RCA input for installing an XM reciever in my car, when i came across this on the site. MAZ/PC-PIOX... An adapter to convert the mazda protocol to either a pioneer cd changer, OR a pioneer XM reciever. Has anyone tried this product? I am curious about a few things, mainly, will the headunit controls control the Xm reciever? I am now VERY interested in this, and am tempted to just buy the thing right now.

Please, someone has GOT to have tried this, Right????

talk to thew at rx8garage.net he is a PIE dealer and he can get a hold of them easily

I believe the pioneer adaptor works as long as you have the specific one for our generation of HUs...the question is what functionality would be retained? maybe we could control the sat unit through the steering wheel controls oh and if you need the product I'm sure thew could get it for you...he is easy to work with

yes that will work to, and i can get it for you NP. takes me a day.

I list the alpine unit because thats the one that was tested. But the Pioneer unit will indead work the same.. I dont think it gives you anything else thow. if i am correct they both convert to the RCA input to m bus. .... i still think that it will only let you have volume and Mute.. no other controlls. but i may be wrong. I have asked PIE and they tell me that only the Alpine unit has been tested.

If you like i will get one for you, you try it out. if it wont work i will swap it for the alpine unit that does. But again as for the total controll with your Wheel buttons i think you will not get any more. just volume. Now if Sat Radio is your thing then buy the new MAzda SAt Module it plugs into the Same connecter on the back of your HU and it will be compleatly controllable from the wheel. But then you give up any other Line input to your HU ..

So theres lots of options.

you can aim me at sbthew
or just email me at rx8garage@sbcreative.com

well, currently i can't test it out, because i need to get my radio update anyways (at least i think i do, unless this one will wrk with 9.53) It would not be very useful if all it did is provide a line in though, the Pioneer XM units are just black box style, designed to hook up to a pioneer headunit. If it does have control features, then indeed it would be the greatest option for us. Problem is testing.. I had hoped that PIE would have tested the item before manufacturing it... awefully strange to me. The fact that they claim to allow it to work with the Pioneer XM units, which don't have any controls on them, seems fishy if al it is is line-in. Thew, is it possible for you to try and get some more details from PIE? I have emailed them, but they have not responded to me.

Again, if this works, this will be the greatest product ever.. :-)

yes ill ask them direct. I know it wil work for what it is designed to do.. but that may not be what you want. ie. the converter is made to convert a Pioneer CD unit to the Mazda m bus system. so that it will do . the XM part is not clear to me but i i a sure it will do as advertised.

not yet, but if this indeed is what it is for, i will buy one post haste. I am unwilling to purchase a $130 reciever that is completely useless to me, without at least some HOPE of it working. As i said, the PIE page also lists that it works for 3 different XM recievers from pioneer as well as the CD changer, so it should work (at least that's what the site implies)

well, it looks like I may be able to buy the pioneer XM reciever, but it looks like i am going to have to buy my wife a new stereo for her car (pioneer of course), but that should allow me access to the XM unit to test. I am still in negotiations with her, but it is looking promissing... I'll keep you informed.. hehe... and I'll probably be figuring a way to get my HU flashed.

Following is correspondence with PIE about the pioneer adatper. It seems that it will work for control, just not display. Meaning that for XM cahnnels 1-99, it displays CD_TRK01-CD_TRK99, then 100-199, CD1TRK00-CD1TRK99. This severly limits some of the benefits of XM, so I may end up holding off until I find or build a better solution. I am looking at eventually building a carputer for my RX-8, so i guess I will be waiting until then, whan i can make my own, custom, display, to show all the information available. Sorry to get everyone's hopes up!

Thank you for contacting PIE.

Subject: MAZ/PC-PIOX features.

Hello,

My name is Christopher Piper, and I am a long time member of rx8club.com. On that site, your MAZ/PC-ALP unit is all the rage, because of its seamless integration of an aux in to the Mazda Rx-8 head Unit. I have been perusing your site, and have noticed a new product, the MAZ/PC-PIOX, which claims to connect IP-BUS components from pioneer to the Mazda Head unit. I originally started this search looking for a decent way to control an XM receiver, and this SEEMS to be the perfect product. I simply want to know now, is what features does this product actually have? What I mean is to ask is, how is the XM receiver controlled? What of the RX-8’s controls are used? (head unit, steering wheel controls, etc.) And what information is displayed on the stock Rx-8 radio display? This product seems outstanding, but I am a little leery to purchase it, without some extra information. I am especially concerned, because I own an older RX-8 which I believe will require a re-flash of the firmware to enable the port on the head unit to work.

Thank You,

Christopher Piper

sounds cool...just use one of their displays for the unit and mount in the Tape blank or get the signal to have a video out into the nav display

wish i had the nav, if i did, i'd already have a carputer in there and it wouldn't matter. I don't think pioneer makes a custom display fo the XM reciever, and I'm pretty sure it would have the controls on it, vice using the stereo's controls. I like the idea of using the steering wheel controls fr as much as possible, even if it is just to select through station presets (as it does on the stock AM/FM) for consistancy. That's why i thought this product would be great.

Angry

Update : the Pioneer Box Is still in design!! it does not exsist yet.. I just spoke with PIE. They tell me that the PIE MAZ/PC-PIOX is still being designed. !! So.. as of today the only PIE box that is currently ready and working with the MAzda HU is the Maz/PC - ALP
This Will allow you to add an Alpine after market CD/unit and controll it with the OEM car controlls.. or ofcourse you can use the RCA inputs and add what everyou want. ...
