Angry Passport 8500 X50 - "Sevice Required" Message

Has anybody had this happen? Brand new Passport 8500 X50 only used for 2 days. Today it decides to run a self-calibration test twice and then all I get is a " Service Required" message. The owner's manual says that it has failed the self-calibration test and to contact Escort for repair. Bought it off of ebay so Escort doesn't honor warranty. The seller says he offers a 1 year in house warranty but I am waiting for a reply from them. Hope to get it replaced but was wondering if there might be a way to reset or "reboot" the unit. GRRRRRR.

Hot?

I had older models that failed their boot up test if they were left in direct sun and were hot to the touch.....

I know thats not much help, but it might clear up if you just move it.

Have had my x50 for about a year -- never had anything bad happen.

Good luck with the fix.

I called Escort service and they said it would have to be repaired by them. $80 flat rate. Ebay seller says send it back and he'll replace it - no problem. :D Just noticed that unit has had serial number removed. Seller has over 2,000 sells with 99.7 % positive feedback. I guess I'll send it back and hope for the best.
