Passport 8500 X50 Lidar install
I just purchased the passport 8500 and I am ordering the Lidar jammers (laser jammers) I plan on putting 2 in the front and 1 in the rear. I need to hardwire this to the car for power including the radar detector what accessory or fuse should I have the install place connect these to?

The simplest approach if you are squeemish about cutting and splicing wires (and who isn't if they don't have to) is the Add-A-Circuit, type fuse holder. It basically lets you piggyback a second circuit onto an existing fuse connection without any wire cutting or splicing - another cool thing about this is that your added circuit is separately fused. See the DIY on Valentine Radar detector installation for pictures.
If you need power inside the cabin you'll need the mini-size, there are various brands (probably others as well):
NAPA part number: BK7822226 (not verified)
Littlefuse, it's called "add-a-circuit" part number FHM-200BP
JC Whitney's MINI TAPA CIRCUIT 495784
Still in cabin: You probably want to tap into a fuse that is switched by the ignition switch, I believe the third fuse down is the A/C fuse. I'm probably going to use this one to hard wire my radar detector. I'm sure others would work as well, but the DIY already pointed this one out as usable.
If you need power inside the engine compartment, you'll have to do a little more research - I don't have my wiring manual here so I can't recommend a fuse there. I just checked and there are both mini, and the larger fuses in the engine compartment. Littlefuse makes a larger unit for the larger fuses and you can get it at:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=071-580
You should be able to identify which (if any) of the engine compartment fuses are switched by the ignition switch with a volt meter and a probe, or the wiring manual if you have one.

I fully recommend having a professional installer (one who sells the Escort shifters) install the unit. 1. they will be able to provide warranty support. 2. It does take a good knowledge of the unit to mount and install the front units in the best possible locations. my $0.02

My dad has an S2000 with the same set up as I do, we were cruising down the road one day and the laser warning went off. We stopped at a light and the detector was still going off and he hit the "stop" button so it would stop jamming the laser and off to the right was a cop with his laser pointing at the car. I have seen them work, if you say they dont then dont buy them and dont cry when you get a ticket.

can you tell me where they placed the laser jammers on your car (you have an 8 right?)?
what kind of jammer do you have and what radar detector...I've got the 8500, not the x50 version though
I'd be willing to get a whole new detector if needed in addition to a jammer
thanks

The model you have will work fine, I have my jammers in the oil cooler openings in the front and 1 in the back above the license plate. I have the Passport 8500 X50. Yes I have an 8

We are talking about laser jammers. The FCC can regulate and control radar which is why RADAR jammers and illegal. They can not regulate light hence LASER jammers are legal.

how do i no they dont work i use one every day. my laser has a longer range then the jammer so when i got u locked in your jammer is still looking. I am not trying to be a jerk but dont waste your money, and just slow down a little and you wont need the "JAMMER"

Isn't that the guy who has this beef with Valentine 1? I see its not mentioned anywhere on the site that I can find, and I seem to remember some fairly popular radar detector review site having a problem with them...and since I've seen about a million reviews of the V1 that are favorable, and since everyone I know who has one swears by it...that tells me something about "Radar Roy's" credibility.

cause I know of 2 that work extrememly well...another that does but isn't worth the price tag of over $1000 (they sell them at the premier BMW dealership around town)
