NX30 Tweeters - which wire to solder crossover to?
 

Hi Guys.

I just received my Image Dynamics NX30 tweeters. I'm going to swap these out with the Bose 2" speakers and use the Bose filters.

Can anyone here tell me which wire I should solder the Bose filters to? I'm sort of an audio newbie. There are two wires:

1) Has the red stripe and fatter connector
2) No stripe and smaller connector

Theoretically it shouldn't matter, but they are always put on the positive lead which has the red stripe & fatter connection.

please put up a review of the final sound and DIY!!! i want to do this same thing very badly, but am unsure of a few things...

I pretty much read every single thread on this forum regarding upgrading the sound of the Bose 2" speakers and decided the NX30 replacement was the easiest solution.

I'll be done with it tonight and will post a full review and a short DIY when done.

thats ME... i've been reading every thread but still can't really decide which way to do it and with what tweeters... hopefully your finished install will help me finally decide

i plan on adding on a set of boss tw-20 tweets i've had sitting in my room... just haven't had the time. gonna keep the bose 2" speakers in there & run these parallel.
i could use a pic of where to splice these in after the bose filter...

The filter is soldered directly to the 2" bose tweeter. Keep in mind your impedence. Dropping it in half could possibly blow your rear amp.

yeah thats what i was worried about... i'd probably just replace the tweeters entirely... but seeing as bose, for some odd reason, makes their tweeters be mid-highs, would the NX-30's reproduce the same frequency range?

Okay, the NX30 tweeters are installed and they are a great improvement over the Bose 2" speakers. I listen to a pretty wide range of music from acoustic guitar, to drum & bass, to Coltrane, to Moby.

You can actually here the highs in electronic music and the strumming in an acoustic guitar performance. I am very pleased with the results. I actually turn down the treble -1 on some songs since you do get a lot more sound in the upper range.

For my installation, I pretty much did everything that Mr. Wiggles did in the "Great Idea Shared" thread. Click here Excellent thread. Oldie but goodie.

In a nutshell, I pulled out the stock 2" speaker, took off the filter and then soldered it to the new NX30 tweeter. The NX30 tweeters are a little bigger than the stock mounts so I heated up the sail mount with a hair dryer to help stretch it out a bit so the tweeter could squeeze in the mount a little better. It's definitely a pressure fit. I then made a simple bracket to hold in the tweeter using the same 2 screws that held in the Bose speakers.

It's quite simple really. The car looks exactly the same as before and sounds much better. No cutting or drilling into the car at all. The Bose system should have had these tweeters from the beginning. Very happy with the results and $109 well spent. Now I need to add some bottom end to the sound.
