No sound - but radio display comes on - help?

I have a 2008 40th Anniversary Edition - radio has the 6 CD changer and no tape player.

Last weekend the battery died - completely dead - I came in from a trip and the car was parked at O'hare in a covered off-site parking but it got down to the teens or lower.

Attempted a jump start using one of those machines but all it did was turn on the interior lights and started wouldn't turn. At some point someone switched plus/minus and blew the main 120 amp fuse (guys in the parking garage attempting to help).

So new battery replaced fuse and all is well BUT the radio. It turns on the display works but no "audio" comes from the speakers. Wondering if there was another radio fuse somewhere but checked the underhood fuses and all works --

Perhaps I blew the radio but strange that the controls would turn/on off (e.g., I can change the channels and volume - eject or insert a CD but just no audio!

Any suggestions?

Same thing happened to me. There is a fusebox in the cabin right by your left foot, and there is probably a blown fuse in there.

Volume?

It goes back to zero when the battery dies.

I haven't found a solution yet. I didn't find any underhood fuses that were blown either.

Next step is to take it to the dealer and see if they can troubleshoot it.

Check the cabin fuse box. It sounds exactly like what happened to me.

Yes - it is fixed. It was the 20 amp radio fuse in the in-cabin fuse box (lower set of fuses).

Thanks -

I'm having a problem with my stereo too, but it is NOT the fuse. I go to work in the morning, it's fine. When I leave work and start the car, I get nothing. Display is on but no sound and a pulsing clicking sound coming from on top of the dashboard. It has to be some bad connection to the speaker but I have no idea how to get under there and check.

Yup. Yet another one with this problem. Everything works fine on the radio, just clicking sounds out of the speakers. If it was a fuse, they wouldn't make a sound at all. I think it is a ground issue. But I have posted a couple thread to where the factory amp is grounded at and nobody replies. There are enough people here who know where it is grounded at, but all their fingers must be broken and can't type to tell me where it is.

I'm having the same problem - I have the complete wiring diagram and a smart friend lol. hopefully between the two we can figure it out??

Is your system completely stock?? Just want to rule out if it has to do with the minor aftermarket changes I have installed.

Hey I have this same problem, replaced the fuse and got it to work...for like 2 seconds. Then the fuse blew, again. Went through two fuses this way. Anyone have an idea what it could be? Why do I keep blowing fuses?

Radio "No sound"!

First day with 2004 231psi RX8 bought it as none runner yesterday but with 48k miles and full Mazda service history hope it's not a lemon and will start after some work.

The issue of no sound from the radio was simple as noted in one of the threads I just needed to replace the 20 amp fuse in the cabin as that powered the amp in the boot.
