no more 12in sub b/c of rear strut. OPTIONS?

hey guys,
i no longer have my solo baric 12in sub and box b/c i've decided to install a rear strut brace after blowing out my fuse from my sub re-wire. I've found that as a college student, moving days are extremely uncomfortable w/ the big box in my trunk (since it takes over most of the trunk (entire area before the gap).

Since i have the rear strut brace, what are my options for sound? I know customization costs a lot of money, but i dont' want to spend too much. just a little kicker, that's all.

Also, can i do anything with my 12in. kicker L7 solo baric sub?? i've heard that as the box for the sub gets smaller, so does the sound quality...

options?

if it helps, i had a 1000w amp powering the sub...

go get a 4080 box :D (but i think tey may only be for 10"s)

teh sound won't suffer as long as teh box it is going in has the right amunt of volumn for hte sub.

Do a search for 4080 and you will like what you find.

The box can only support a 10 inch woofer but with the factory sound system that is all that I could imagine needing.

I have a JL Audio 10W3 in a 4080 with 300 watts behind it and it gets LOUD and sounds great. If you still have that 1000 Watt amp, you might want to try a 10W6v2 instead and get another couple dBs.

I don't know exactly what you listen too, but one ten incher should be enough and with the 4080 box you will still have 90% of your trunck left.

i dont believe tehe 4080 box will work, as they are designed for round woofers, and jaehyun has a square woofer. going with a smaller enclosure wont degrade the sound quality of the woofer (up to a point, if you go too small then it will sound worse) but a larger box will make it louder and boomier (again up to a point)

look up the specs that are included with you woofer for the min and max sealed volume for your woofer, and then take some measurements and see if you can build a box with what you have available.

yes, i am nod denying that if he goes with the 4080 box, he will need to get a different sub. but there is not much out there than can compare to the L7. going with a different sub would be like going from the rx-8 to a honda civic in terms of performance. yes there are subs out there that can come pretty close to the L7, but the price is generally more than what he paid for the sub originally. if he gets creative, or has a shop that can do the custom work at a reasonable price, he will be much happier staying with the L7

Are you serious?? I can pretty much tell that you're not SQ oriented. There are plenty of subs out there that are beyond the L7. Also a Square subwoofer is just plain evil :D .

actually, i worked for 6 years in a car stereo shop, and have been gone now for 2 years, but i will be returning to my old employer and resuming my passion for all things car.

as to sq or boom, i can go either way depending on my mood, and i give props to any system as long as its well done and executed.

if you are sq oriented, then no the L7 is NOT the way to go, as the L7 is more for the spl enthusiast. now as he already has an L7, i am assuming that he likes his bass loud.

being an evil (i mean square) woofer, it will actually be louder than a given round woofer with the same excursion(granted an L7 will require more power as the surround needs more power to over come its resistance to motion as its not as easy to move as a round woofers surround.

now if you are into sq, and still want it pretty loud, i would recommend going with a JL W7, but you are paying a pretty penny for it, or a little less cost, not quite as loud and probably a bit better in the sq, a w6v2.

just my experience in the realm of car audio

i don't knwo why.. but i have a 1000w powering my l7 (or did at least), and strangely enough, it bumped LOUD, but it wasn't soo much better than my infinity basslink that i had on before....

Car guys and other guys told me that if i had a secondary head unit, or replaced my stock head unit, it woudl bump MUCH LOUDER, but as for the bump, the l7 (despite it's 12in) bumped clearer and more "crisper" if you know what i mean.

But as for loudness, it wasn't too loud. IT wasn't like those civics or accords, or other crap cars that have a super loud base... i can somewhat to moderately hear it bump outside the car... While the basslink was barely - somewhat heard...

i dont' know if you guys are going to understand what i typed, but its worth a shot.

I understand what you're trying to say. Well different car's have a different bass responce becaus the car itself does act as a secondary enclosure that's why certain cars will be louder than others with same equipment. Replacing the stock unit will help with the sound. It will give you a cleaner signal & also you will not need to set the gains on your amp all that high, with the stock unit you'll have to set the gains on the amp high to make it hit harder.
