A NICE shift knob
 

I have to give a big THUMBS UP to the Razo Type 340R ball shift knob. The attachment method is superb and the feel of the smoothly-finished ball under your fingers as you pull from 3rd to 4th on a windy canyon road is heavenly. Cost: $27.95 at Super AutoBACS in Los Angeles. It also weights a hefty 340 grams, making it close to the weight of the original knob, making for smoother shifting. I'll post some pictures tomorrow after I add a spacer under the shift boot. The ball is quite a bit shorter than the original shifter so a piece of 1/2" hose under the boot will be necessary. Aside from that, it's a fantastic addition to the car!

Now I just need that short shifter to with it!

does it use screws or is it specific to the thread of the shifter? and does it get hot?

I been looking for a new shift knob, right now I have the hks one. I find it to be too small and light. Can't wait for the pics.

It doesn't get warm during driving... It DOES get hot from the sun beating down here in the desert though. I'll live with that to have the comfort of a super-smooth ball under my palm, as opposed to the awkward triangle edges!

I used a piece of "hobbyist" aluminum tubing which I got at the local hardware story for about $3, trimmed to just 1" to slide over the visible portion of the shift lever under the ball. Now I have a black leather shift boot, a silvery shaft which matches the interior trim nicely and slides up through the boot, hiding the extra threads on the shaft, and a darkly polished metal ball with a subtle "Razo" engraving on the top.

Photos will be taken at sunup tomorrow for all curious. With taxes, I think I'm only out about $38 TOTAL! Can you say "screamin' deal"?

It doesn't use funky lock screws. It uses a hard plastic tapered insert which slides into the ball and secures inside with a single screw. The insert is shaped so it cannot slip and turn inside the ball. It threads on very tightly and stops at a conveniently-low position where the logo can be "leveled" to the orientation of the dash. It's not quite as black as "piano black" but looks very nice nonetheless.

It makes me happy! LOL

Here are the photos. Note the shiny silver aluminum tube used as a decorative spacer to cover the shifter shaft. It looks "finished" that way. I didn't want the boot to come all the way up to the ball because it felt more natural being able to wrap my fingers over the ball.

Where'd you get the aluminum tube?

At the local Ace hardware store in town. It's just some sort of "hobbyist" tubing, and not really structurally strong. It DOES look great, and fits fairly tight around the shaft. Once the knob was tightened down, the aluminum tube is pinched into place. The tube was $3 for a foot-long section.

Razo also makes a 200 gram version, but I prefer the heft of the 340 gram knob. It's also better concentrated at the top of the shaft than the OEM knob, so there's a slight decrease in notchiness going from gear to gear. The difference is slight, but noticable.

The best thing is feeling your hand smoothly slide across the top of the knob when pulling the 1-2, 3-4, or 5-6 shift. That really makes the shifting feel just that much smoother again. Perhaps having a consistent pressure on the shift knob, regardless of shaft angle, also helps the shifting?

This may sound stupid but how is it with finger prints?

Im crazy anal about those things too.
If I left prints on my knob, I would be wipeing it off everytime I stopped. lol

I haven't noticed any finger prints yet. Doesn't mean they aren't there. Mostly it's my palm on the top of the knob, and I don't look underneath for prints.

i also have the 340r knob...i shaved down the tread so that its not that big... it looks nice.

I really like the size and look of the Razo 340r knob and the price is really nice as well. Had I not found the smaller VooDoo, I would have definitely gone that direction. At this point the only new VooDoo knobs are made in the magnum size, which is just too big for my likes.

I just got my voodoo in the mail.
my 1st reaction was "w0w, this puppy is kinda heavy"
then I go to my 8, unscrew my knob for the 1st time, and surprisingly, the stock knob is VERY heavy. I recomend you take your knob off just to get a feel for it if youve never taken it off.

I was thinking, "man....... I wanted a heavier one!"

but after installing it and playing with it (havent driven it yet) I feel a HUGE comfort and a completley diffrent feeling
the shifts feel shorter and *as weird as this may sound* Its almost like I can feel the actual rod going into gear.
It brings me THAT much closer to "feeling" my car and "being" my car....

.... but then again, im drunk right now, so i'll find out tomorrow, lol.

p.s. my knob isnt as Shiney as it is in the site.... my 1st reaction was "I got a fake!!"

Love my Voodoo...you cant beat the feel of the shift when this knob sits on the AFE shifter.

Could we please stop posting "Voodoo knob infomercials" all over my thread? This was just meant to show people what my Razo knob lookes like in the car. Jeez, you'd think the Voodoo knobs are the "second coming" by all of your posts. Start your own damn thread!

Hehe...now I did mention that I really liked the Razo and the way it looked. Very similar in look and feel to the VooDoo but obviously at a better price point!! Originally when I posted my VooDoo pics I was looking at it like the brotherhood of the round knobs.....sorry bout that! I have since deleted that post out of courtesy to the OP.

I liked both of the products but it was easier for me to buy the Voodoo

My concern with the Voodoo knob, which I've seen echoed in these posts, was that it would weigh less than the OEM knob. Especially since it is all aluminum. The RAZO Type 340R is close enough to the weight of the OEM knob that I can't tell the difference holding them both in my hands.

I think one of my 2 year-old's socks will make a perfect "knob cover" for the summer!

I must agree the Razo knob looks nice. I Froogled it but only once place has it for $46 bucks. I am only a little concerned because most aftermarket knobs use a stupid adapter that always comes loose, even with thread locker. Does this one stay in place nicely?

Feels extremely tight now. I suppose as long as I'm not removing and reinstalling it constantly, it should remain tight. They jury's still out on that.

Real nice knob but I had a Razo knob years ago and it faded badly and came loose all the time an eventually wore out so it just spun free. I guess you will let us know if Razo has improved their products.

My Voodoo arrived today and it's very shiny black. My first thought was, 'I thought it would be bigger'

Got the Razo it is very nice and very heavy. Really pretty too. No issues with the figerprints. I got the RP SS and this accentuates and adds to the "feeling" of the short throw shifter. I didn't think it could get more precise but it made a pretty significant difference. I think it is probably the same feeling that those with the Voodoo shift knob get but I thought this is much prettier, less expensive, weighs more and better material. It is self-threading instead of the "adapter type knobs" I have seen in the past which tend to get loose. Good find Munkey. Now I need to cut the tubing :Kill2:

i currently own the razo ra43 shift knob.. there's nothing wrong with it 'yet' i suppose.. haha it fits tight, doesn't rattle, doesn't leave finger prints, etc. but it does get cold in the winter and really hot during the summer, so i put a cover over it. other than that, it's great and it was affordable too.. ^^

The oem knob is the best knob to have. Hope that sounds right.

i have a Razo RA102, but just ordered a Voodoo one as well. Hope that won't disappoint me.
