New Steering Wheel

So does anyone know of anyplace where I can get an after market steering wheel that still has audio & cruise control still, plus an airbag (so I can still use it on the street) but is of a sportier design? Like this: http://www.europrice.us/Steering/spo...oothpdls4a.jpg

After market wheel that retains all the audio and cruise controls AND has an airbag AND still mates up with the stock RX8? You don't ask for much do ya?

lol Seriously though, that's not something you're going to find. What you CAN do though, is have your stock wheel rebuilt and recovered. There are companies that will take your stock wheel, modify the actual wheel and reshape the foam to give it a different "grip", then recover it in custom leather.

Just keep in mind, anything is possible... how much do you want to spend on it? It won't be cheap.

Any re-wrap would be cheaper then buying a new one, OEM steering wheels are ridiculously expensive due to the magnisuim core used and the amount of manufacturing process involved with it. That being said I need a re-wrap too, but havent found anyone that can or has done a re-wrap on an rx8 steering. If you know anyone point them my way please

This thread, post #18 used to have a pic of a really sick looking modified steering wheel. Unfortunately its now gone... Maybe you can try to get a hold of the op to see where he got the pic from if he remembers. They discussed it again in post #54-57

Edit: found it somewhere else...Robson Design Carbon Fiber Car & Accessories Interior

Keep in mind that the picture I showed is a series 2 wheel. But you get the idea.

Anyone aware if the S2 and S1 steering wheels are interchangeable?

Not a real hot topic. Most of the threads about it go nowhere. Heres 2 though that have a miniscule amount of info. It seems that the radio controls are the big issue. I say you make it work and make a thread about it!

The wheel is the most popular, myself and some other member have it. You will not find better quality.

Looks like there is a guy on Miata.net that will make a custom version for the MX-5.
I think it is the same wheel as the RX-8.

I realise that this is a massively old thread, but I am running an S1 with an R3 steering wheel. Works fine, only thing that irks me is that it doesn't have cruise control. Might get a blanking plate for it but other than that works fine.

Looks great, much fresher and more modern look.

The audio buttons and such don't work either right?

Audio buttons work fine, only issue is that it has cruise control buttons which do absolutely nothing

That sucks, that is why I went with the Autoexe wheel instead of the R3 wheel, I need everything to work.

Just to point out, the cruise control buttons only do nothing because my 8 doesn't have cruise control! :-)

I'm tempted to get the AutoExe R3 wheel, but getting them to the UK is not cheap :-(

Ah, you are in the UK. I was wondering, here all RX-8's have CC. I have an R3 parts car in the driveway, I considered getting that wheel but none of the functions work when others have tried it, I was wondering how you got yours to work, must be the differences in the car or maybe because of the Bose system.
