New Pioneer 6x9's

Just got finished installing some Pioneer 6x9 4-ways (in my Base model) using Overload's D.I.Y. Was really pretty easy. Hardest part was getting out of the trunk after I wired them. You gotta be some kind of contortionest to fit in there and strip wires and solder. So if anyone is thinking about it, go for it, it's not that hard.

Did you also replace the fronts or just the rear's? How is it sounding? Should be a great improvement.

Probably not going to tackle the fronts. My step-son was given these speakers in a trade and he sold them to me for half of what they sell for. I usually listen to talk radio but now I can break out the tunes. The stock 6x9 speakers were really pretty basic (read..BAD) so yes the Pioneer 4 ways sound nice and replacing the fronts definately would make it sound even better. It will take me a week for my back to recover getting out of the trunk

Agreed. I put in some Kenwood Excelon 6x9's last night. I actually bought them for my 4Runner, but never got around to putting them in (and I traded the 4Runner in on the '8). Glad for that now. :D Was a very easy job, and the sound is much improved. I'll probably order some 6x8's and do the front speakers later. The OEM speakers, as you note, are pretty bad -- I think they have a .02 ounce magnet in them. :p

Best,
Bill

Let me know how hard it is to take off the door panels for the 6x8's. Also the improvement in sound (I am sure it will be there). I may have to follow your lead, Thanx -Jim

Hi Jim,

Will do. Not sure when I'll get to it though.

Best,
Bill
