If your going to get a nav, you should get the stock.Ive heard its diffcult to add a aftermarket nav and it'll cost you more money in the long run. Is there a reason you want a nav? I dont use mind half the time, but its pretty cool when i have too

Not sure if anyone has actually done the work to cost it out but I think it is safe to say that if you wan the OEM Nav, get it when you buy the car.

If you don't then it would likely be much cheaper to add an aftermarket unit. If you are real handy maybe you could scarf one out of a wreck and install it yourself but that would be a big pain in the ***.

Huh? It doesn't play DVD movies or anything distracting. Why else would she be against it? Price?

Although I love my Nav, I do wish it had better map support. There are portable GPS systems that let you download updates from the Internet. Ours is a disc, and an update runs $200 ($150 current discount). I'm kind of ticked, because I bought a 2004, the maps were already 2 years out of date, and now they want me to buy an update.

Garmin has some new touch screen units that are pretty cool and don't cost near as much. Plus you can move them car to car.

Ignoring the discs... I love my nav.

There are better and cheaper alternatives out there. But if you MUST have a built in system then you must get the factory installed nav.

The manager of the leader had been driven couple thousand miles(mine is 2000 miles)
and they lower the price, but u can't add or remove any item from the car

also called "Manager Special"

Get the stock navigation system.

Not only will it help you a ton with traveling, getting around, etc... but its well done and would take loads of work to make up for that aftermarket.

Why wouldnt your mom want you to have it? It isnt a distraction.

If used as designed (read the owners manual) It is not distracting at all. While driving it is closed. before you leave you type in where you want to go. then you close the lid and drive and just turn when she tells you. no need to even look at the screen when driving. It can be a nice safety feature to have. You will never get lost somewhere as long as you have it. So it much safer then trying to read a map while driving or stopping at some quicky mart in the early morning to ask for directions, which nowadays could be very dagerous. Just a few suggestions for you mom to consider. hope it helps.

Not really a distraction, especially in "Night Mode"

Nobody mentioned the the voice with the NAV system...
Do any of you think that it's an improvement compared to other factory voices?
She is talkative on curvy roads, but more pleasing than the Bimmer girl.

I wasn't all that impressed with the nav system in the several test drives I took. I played with it for quite awhile in one. I opted to buy one without the nav and save a few bucks.

She probably looks like your typical, irresistably gorgeous anime.

Here is a picture with a nav. And to answer your question about entering a location at a stop light, I would suggest pulling over and using the nav.

Don't waste your time trying to install a factory nav. It's all about the carputer these days man. Talk to Rotary Rasp.

^ what he said.

Carputers can do so much more useful, you just have to know someone that knows how to do it.

I'm looking to go the carputer route myself. I saw a thread in the DIY forums here that just looks plain scary! I'd say either go carputer or get one installed by the factory.
