Navigation DVD Update

Just got off the phone with Navteq and they have pushed back the DVD update to October, possibly November. They also said this DVD will not only be a mapping update but an operational software update as well (for those of us that haven't "zapped" our existing Nav to get it updated).
:D

I called 3 days ago, and they said mid september.... now youre saying October or November.... *rolls my eyes* I cant believe they just dont make a blanket statement saying... you will get it when you get it! lol...

Yes it will- somewhere between $200-$300 based on other upgrade prices. I think it stinks that Mazda doesn't subsidize these at least somewhat, especially considering the map data we currently have is quite old.

I called about two weeks ago and they told me sometime in September lol. By the time this update disc comes out all of the maps on it will be old again...Oh Well im sure it will be worth the wait if it contains the map updates & the software update too.

Please read my next post for a clarification of this:

ok sorry to break it to you guys but there is no firmware update for those with A very old build...there is an entirely new system needed as there is a faster processor and I believe more memory (I'll try to post the different vers of the system from the european sites)

I have a may 03 build and I came in complaing about how slow it is...the freezes, etc and a mazda service rep was there and said mine is working like crap compared to the one in the 8 he drives...so they ordered a new one...yes an entirely new navigation unit (the one next to the back seats)...

oh and here are the changes I see having the new one (NEW UNIT WITH NEW SOFTWARE):
-split screen at turns
-faster interface (startup is much shorter now)
-new splash screen
-keyboard style inputing
-approximately double (maybe a little less then x2) resolution (not mentioned on the posts) and this is a huge difference (and no they didn't swap out the lcd)

Truemagellan,
I got all those changes that you mentioned and they didnt even touch the unit. Where are you getting your information from?

sorry I did not explain well...I re-read what I posted and it complicated things:

ok...this is my take on the whole navigation upgrade thing...there are 2 different units...one is for those with a very very old build date (ie mine which was may 2003) then the newer unit which has higher resolution output, is MUCH faster and is what most people have in there cars now

then there is a firmware update as well...that addresses the split screen...keyboard style inputing and better voice guidance...this update (from a disk) allows those with the newer UNIT to have the NEWER operating software for the unit which makes the content disk (map disk...which is the same for all units and will be updated this fall) data more functional

sorry about my confusing post before...I'll change it

hope this answers the 'big debate' over hardware update or software update...both sides are correct

Cool... Oh yeah...just for ***** and giggles... I called Navteq one more time today, and they said the RX-8 disc will be released in September, but the release date is not final yet. Go figure

There is only ONE model Nav DVD player CN-VM4360A. The update (software) will update any/all players and operate the newest map disc (if it is ever released).

you mean the CN-DV2300N http://www.leadmedia.co.uk/navweb/Ho.../CNDV2300N.htm

see...the NEW unit is derived from the CN-DV2300N and the difference is signified by its 'zoom in' before turns...the split screen feature...the model you mention is the older one...and was never released to end users (probably only to mazda in early production)

check out the new one here...also if you want you can probably swap it with the 2200 and it will play dvds...anyone want to by my nav unit?

nvm:

"Just like Jason, my car was manufactured in December 2003. Cars made after this date likely already have the updated software version.

Navigation System Versions (normal version page)
DVD 3.18.20.2
Software U9.136 2003.7

ECU Info Page (3 up 3 down 2 up)
Software -> Ver. Info

Main CPU (M) U4.06 2002.9
Main CPU (F) U9.136 2003.7
Sub CPU 82
CD-ROM Drive 2.04
GPS 0.0
Map Database 1.7.27.6
Map Software 1.7.32.3

If there's anyone out there with a version number that's different from U9.136 2003.7 I'd be interesting in seeing your build date and other version numbers for comparison."

Mine definitely doesnt have the keyboard thing , i thought it was a user setting but its not to be found. The showroom one had it tho. I'll see if I can get the software updated

that is a very good thing...you probably have the higher resolution output too...means you can just put in a disk and it will make it the newer software

my old unit did not zoom, lower resolution...my build date was May 2003 so the old unit wasn't just old but ANCIENT... by december 2003 (your build date) LOTs has changed including the NAV unit

I think mine was on the second shipment (it is number 600 or so)...ask those with dec build their versions

Your driving me crazy with this, what is the model number of your nav DVD player? If its the same model as everyone else then it has the same capability for upgrade ect.

Nope, mine is NOT a december build date. 5/03 listed on the door jamb. not sure how to tell what number it is.. but 974 are the last 3 digits in the VIN.

It zooms, but its still VERY slow and annoying to use.

so it zooms in at the turns, showing a split screen view?

or can the map just zoom in and out

ok you have the OLD one...like me...may need a hardware swap (just go to you dealer...be really nice and tell them how it is slow...freezes...looses position...etc. it worked for me...they were really nice about it...I didn't even have to lie or erase the software)
