Nav System Draining Battery
Hi,
I researched this topic a bit, but couldn't find an answer to my exact question.
I have an '04 RX8 that I bought in '06 with an extended warranty... I think it's "First Extended". After some battery problems (battery dying after not driving for 3 days), the dealer did a parasitic drain and found that the Nav system was the culprit. For a quick fix, they simply disconnected it... on a side note, whoever worked on my car did this the half-assed way because I can clearly see the tool marks on the sides of my dash near the radio console where they probably took some screwdrivers to it!!! GRRR. (I'm contemplating whether or not to complain about this... thoughts?)
Back to my question... so the only "true" fix is to replace the Nav unit entirely, which itself runs about $600 according to Mazda. I told them about my extended warranty to see if the replacement would be covered, but Mazda informed me that according to First Extended, it's not covered. So, has anyone here had this same issue, but has been successful in getting the Nav system replaced at no cost? I think it's a little ridiculous for me to have to pay out of pocket for this issue, considering it's out of my control. Clearly, based on other comments on here, the battery drain by the Nav system is a fairly obvious problem.
Any helpful comments are appreciated! Thanks in advance! :D
