Nav DVD unit manufacturer and questions...

Okay, I just spent a while searching, and I see that the DVD player for the Navigation unit is made by Panasonic. Now, I know I've seen the model number somewhere, but I can't find it. Could someone tell me what it is?

What I'm wondering is if there are any other outputs from the unit. If there are, then possibly the Nav screen could be replaced with a screen that could take that input and a simple video switch could be used to switch between Nav and another desired input.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
~ Matt

no there are not any more outputs...they want to kept it OEM/proprietry style (although it is RGBs)...you can get a board that converts RGBs to VGA...but things are going to get complicated and expensive and you'd wish you would have just bought the one they sell at www.rx8garage.net since the Stock screen actually looks great using s-video

we know the unit inside and out...to make things worse it is a pain to remove the factory display...but if you want you can add a touch screen to it if you wish

I've seen the touch screen thing...AntichristPM did it, right? Any idea if a touch screen would work with a modded xbox? This probably isn't the forum to ask about it...

Maybe I'm being cheap (probably), but I sure have trouble paying $450 just so I can get video into a screen that's worth maybe $200.

There are just soooo many things to buy and a fixed amount of $$$, which makes it hard to spend so much on the video input.

unfortunately it won't work with a modded xbox unless you are only running linux...if so then you need the drivers/extensions to use it anyhow

I have a modded xbox as my music/movie/music video/etc. server in the car...I love it!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking about doing. I'd like to use the stock screen, so it'll be fully integrated, but I may also choose to get a portable DVD player (with inputs) and use that instead. I could then move it from car to car and take it on flights, too.

Just waiting for my tax refund to decide on what to get....

I had two portable dvd players I was using the problem is ground loops...you will have to ground the dvd player to the navigation unit chassis (easiest way is the black ground coming off the nav unit)...one of them looked great but as a portable uinit was a piece of crap for so many reasons...the other one didn't look so good

the xbox is awesome...especially when running XBMC
