it their a way too adjust the time of travel on the nav.mine seems too always tell me it takes longer too get somewhere than it acualy does .tonight i marked 2 locations on I40 which the speed limit is 70mph and it calculated it at 60mph.

 

now i can't believe no one knows the answer to this?

 

not many of us have Nav. Try the secret menu option, there may be a setting you can play with in there.

 

Not that I've ever seen... keep in mind the map disc is from '02 I think- is there any chance that speed limit was raised in the last 2-3 years?

They might dial back the mph by a certain percentage or something to calculate any time that might be needed for fuel stops, bathroom breaks etc.

I know websites like mapquest use this type of thing. I always beat their expected travel time by quite a bit.

I'm actually suprised that the computer/nav doesn't monitor the average speed of the car once the trip is started and make adjustments as you drive. If the trip starts and you go 40mph on average, it will give you one time, but if you then get on the freeway and speed up to 75, i would think it should recalculate your arrival time. Does it not do this?

I dont have nav (or a RX-8 for that matter). Just guessing.

 

mine does readjust when it finallt finds out that i'm 50miles far than i'm supposed too be.thats why i marked 2 spots on the interstate within 60miles of each other.

 

This I know: The Nav system is programmed to know that a certain "type" of road will have a particular average speed.

For example: All interstates will have a speed of 60 MPH, irregardless of what the actual speed limit is. All secondary divided roads will have a speed of 50 MPH. All secondary multi-lane roads will have a speed of 35. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I have not found an option in the nav system to change these settings.

The nav in my other car(Toyota) has an option to set MY usual speed on 4 different kinds of roads and by tweaking them I have +/- 1minute arrival time accuracy.
I have looked through every menu on the nav and there is no such function that I could find. Maybe in the next version if we pester NavTech long enough.......
