mp3 player is playing songs in alphabetical order?

I knowthis type of post probablydoesnt belong on the Rx8 forums butI know alot of you guys have experience w/this. I am tryingto make an mp3 cd for my Rx8s mp3cd player and I wantthe songs to play in a certain order. Butfor some reason the mp3s on the CDs keep getting burned in alphabetical order instead.

AmI going to have number rename every single mp3and put 0 - 150 in frontof each one of their names oris there something out therethat will burn them in the order I want insteadof alphabetical order?

Bytheway the burning program Iwas using was Nero

That's normal for almost every mp3 player out there.

You should definitely be splitting things out into directories and you should have mp3's named:

01 - Whatever.mp3
02 - You get the idea.mp3

Think of each directory as an album and "01,02,03,etc." as your track numbers on that album. It just makes life easier and your collection more managable.

Well this is actuallya pain in the *** for me b/c I have over 150 mp3s I wanton each cd -- so now Imgoing to have to friggin sit andnumber the front of them 000 - 150 everytime I want tomake a new mp3 cd. I dontwant to divide the songs into individual directories b/c ifI do that I wont havethe option of randomly playing through every song on the CD. Well I guesson Sunday instead ofwashing my car Illjust stay inside and do this **** instead

Well, its designed to be like a cd changer, almost all head unit mp3 players are. They don't expect you to just have a collection individual tracks that you then want to play in a specific order.

I'm sure there's tools out there to automatically rename them though.

I take it that the MP3 player doesn't have a shuffle function on it?

It has a shuffle function, you just cant shuffle between directories.

try mp3br

It's actually NERO that is ordering your songs alphabetically. The RX8 MP3 player will simply play them in the order they are written on the CD's. Folders however will always be sorted alphabetically no matter what order they are written in. I haven't figured out how to control file ordering in NERO but I have in another program.

I've used "MP3BR Imager" to let me set a fixed order of songs on an MP3 cd for playing in my RX8 MP3 player.. You can find it here: http://www.mp3br.com

This is a shareware program, I tested it out and seemed to work well enough.
The playlist function on it also works well (it pretty much creates "shortcuts" to a file in another folder on the CD, allowing you to repeat tracks without taking any more space on the CD.)

The program can be a little tricky but worked well for what I wanted to do which is similar to you. It allows you to fix the order of tracks and folders manually. My 8's mp3 player always sorts the folders alphabetically no matter what, but the individual songs are played in the exact order I define. All my MP3's already have track numbers in them, but MP3BR let me take those numbers out, but keep the order the same.

This program will produce a CD image file (.iso file). NERO can be used to burn this image directly to a CD.

Try it out.

Also if your willing to have the numbers in your song titles but just don't want to waste all your time renaming them manually there are some programs which can help that. Try ID3 Tag IT (http://www.id3-tagit.de) Click then "Enumarate in filename" option then click on each file in the order you want.. That is one possible way..

I usually just rip a few albums in seperate folders, and then grab the best songs from each and copy them in another folder that I can then play randomly... yea you get less different songs on a cd but I mean you still can easily get 4+hrs of unique songs
