Just curious...are you also getting no display?

When I first hooked everything up, it all worked perfectly...only I had to pull it all back out to correct something in my stereo connections. When I put it back together, no display, no lights on the climate control buttons and only the fan speed worked. Even worse, the temp was stuck on hot (South Florida summer..not good). I got Metra to send me a replacement interface box, and I bought a replacement climate control board, and the damned thing still doesn't work. To be honest...I question this replacement Metra box. There is zero difference in my setup between having the box in there and all hooked up correctly and throwing the damned thing out the window. Zero. I'm pretty unhappy with the Metra tech support to be honest. They've done nothing but deny that the box they sent me could be the culprit.

That said, I got tired of messing with it...the constant removal and replacement of the cover was starting to cause other problems, so I "rigged" the thing to put out cold air and left it at that. We don't really get cold enough here that constant AC is a big problem. No defrost kinda sucks, but it's way better than constant heat, or no tunes, my only other alternatives that don't waste my time.

Metra kit problems

Hi, i'm new in the site, i live in the dominican republic, i have a 2007 6 speed manual japan spec rx-8 for about 2 weeks. I order the kit from metra but my car has the auto electronic climate control, i did not know that the metra kit was olny for the manual climate control. Is there a kit for the auto climate control?

bumblebeerx8 - the display harness must connect to J2, which is the middle connector on the end with three connectors. If you have battery power, ignition and ground connected to J5 (the big 10-way) and J2 is connected to the display, the display should be live. Let me know what you see, or not.
migmartinez80 - there is no kit for the auto cc.

Thanks RX8Geek, i was thinking of buying a manual climate control unit instead and used with the metra kit. Do you think it could work? I know i will lose the auto mode of the a/c

I've also got the same problem EXCEPT my screen works fine.

Note the outside air and inside air led's are lit up. And the rear defrost. the buttons do nothing (Except for when you hold the middle button down)

Are you using the extension harnesses? If so, remove them from the system and retest. If that fixes it, there may be a bad contact in the one of the extensions. Let me know.

I don't think there's an extension harness in my kit. I used the existing cables that came from the stock ***** and buttons...

UPDATE:

I emailed metra's tech support, asking them about the issue, and Justin from metra linked me this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-no-heat-repair-heater-control-158200/

I gave it a try and the hvac worked again! I don't think it was the soldering, though. Just the fact that I was refastening all the cables. I finished putting the center console back together and the screen still worked, and the buttons still worked, but the LED's stopped working.

Sooooooooooooo I don't know wtf I did, but something is loose again. I'll update when I fix THAT.

I seem to have the same problems as the rest of you. I think I am going to be taking out the metra box and all of the included cables and then hardwiring the connections from the extensions to the metra box by opening it up and then soldering the bare leads in the box to the extensions. I have found that the problem may lie in crummy cable ends (they always seem too loose and never snap in well). I will let you all know how it goes if I do it.

TLDR: Metra support is useless. Crutchfield has AWESOME customer support. AXXESS box was faulty, no AC temp control with AC stuck on cold.

I just installed the Metra kit (purchased from Crutchfield) with a Pioneer AppRadio 4 this month. Everything worked on mines except AC temp which was stuck on cold. I checked all the cables with a multimeter and even tried the DYI solder fix on the AC circuit twice (the first time I merely remelted the existing solder and the second time I applied fresh solder in case) to no avail. Emailed back and fourth with Metra tech support. Useless experience, don't bother.

I called Crutchfield and found out Crutchfield is an authorized Metra dealer and handles warranty services. They mailed me a new kit with a return shipping label after a brief hassle free talk with the tech support rep. I can switch out whatever parts I deem necessary as long as I mail them back a full kit. I only switched out the AXXESS box and what do you know, AC temp works along with everything else.
