MB Quart Speakers

Hello All,
Stopped by the a local high-end shop to see what type of audio options they have for my 04 RX8 with Sports Package. I am looking to replace the speakers and possibly add a subwoofer down the road. After speaking to one of the installers and the shop owner, they showing me several books worths of high end install and they recommened I drop by with my car when I get it back from the body shop. (getting a little door ding removed this week and some maintenace done). As I was reviewing several speaker option it was recommened that I review various JL Audio models and also several lines from MB Quartz. Specifically the Reference series. I did a search at this forum and also others and the reviews look pretty good... Does any one have an opinions or reviews?

Thanks..

I had a 8" JL sub and amps in my Miata with MB Quartz component speakers. I was very happy with that system. I had a custom enclosure built for the sub that fit over the center console, one JL amp for the sub and another JL amp for the speakers. The MBs rock with a sharp crisp high end. I miss it.

MB Quartz tend to be "bright", which means vocals can sound louder than the rest of the music. Focal Utopias tend to get better reviews.

Soundstream

MB Quarts are too bright for my ears. I prefer Soundstream for a much more natural, flat response.

MB's are good. Tried Boston accoustics too - crisp and clear sound. I guess it will depend on what type of music you are into. Factor that in, say if you are more to clarity or would want more bass. my $0.02.

I have a set of JL Audio XR650-csi's in my Grand cherokee and a set of XR650-cxi's powered by a 300/4. That is a component set and the regular co-axial set. They sound great with awesome highs and great mids. I have a 10w7 in an HO box, and its great. This setup offers full range sound, and my mids/tweets easily keep up with the sub. This system gets as loud as I want, ive never turned it up for a long period of time cause it is uncomfortable on the ears.

I bought my girlfriend a 12w3v2 and 250/1 for xmas and it sound alright with the bose system. The bose system has decent highs but the mids are definately lacking. I would reccomend changing the speakers no doubt, but that is if you have an extra 800 bucks layin around plus 300 for install, cause those door firewalls can be tricky and you will probly have to cut out frames for the new speakers.

I would probly put a component system in the 8 inch slot by cutting out a wood cutout for the 6.5 inch driver and tweeter. and then in the back i would probly put a coaxial setup in the 6X9 slot. More speakers doesn't necesarily mean better sound. As to what brand to get, any high end speaker system made by MB Quart or JL audio will be enough and possibly boston acoustics. JL Audio is coming out with the ZR systems which will be Loud as ****. But I think for a hefty price of 800 bucks. Get the MB Quart Q series or JL Audio XR/ZR series and you will not be disapointed.
