Lost in a world of gauges....

Hey guys 'n' girls

I want to fit gauges in my RX, and after reading thread loads of various setups - I am kinda lost.

What 3 gauges do you recommend ? - I understand the Defi BF range are a good match for the stock dash dials.

However, I am fitting a touchscreen in the centre console, so digital gauges via either a carputer or a stand alone system would be cool.... what systems are available ?
I don't need to adjust any engine settings, just to monitor what the engine is up to.
Do Mazdaspeed do any equipment?

Thanks

Steve

you can place the bf gauges up the a-pillar or even over the steering column (my plan). They should still work with your screen plans.

It seems like you are asking two separate questions:
  • What should I monitor with gauges?
  • What brand gauges?
The first depends on what kind of setup (NA or turbo) you have. The second depends on what look you want. Both depend on where you want to mount them.

In my case I want to measure boost, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp. However I only have space for two gauges. Therefore my choice for looks goes out the window since there is only one company I know of that makes dual gauges--SPA Design.

Those are the four things I plan to monitor as well. 3 gauges in the PTP gauge pod (oil press and temp, and water temp) and the Profec E-01 to act as boost gauge.

glad to see others with questions, I have one what exactly does showing oil temp, or say EGT do? I under stand A/F ratio, Boost, water temp, and oil presure. I'm just confused about the other two. I'm looking for 2 gauges to put in the R-magic ash tray pod. Thanks Scud, and everyone else.

Gauges...

I only have the standard car.... no turbo (yet.... snigger snigger)
The RX is a little short on engine info, so I will probably go for oil information and water or something. There arn't that many available really.
Do Mazdaspeed do gauges ??
Also, who does the dual gauge pod for the ashtray I keep hearing about.

Its only 3 weeks old.... yet I mod already...

I have the turbo. One of my gauges is the boost & the other is exhaust gas temperature guage. Two very important things when running the turbo.

Turbo - its gonna happen

What turbo have you got ?
Its gonna get added, its not if but when!
What does a turbo system cost ... approx. I have seen a few threads regarding it in here, but not followed them up yet.
I'll will have to wait a while, can't trash my Mazda warranty just yet

Its only money.....

Why, is EGT important? I understand Boost to see how high your boosting, A/F to see if your lean or rich, but why oil temp, or EGT? thanks.

Oil temp, because the rotary gets pretty hot. If the oil is getting hot, the combustion chamber is probably also getting hot, I would think.

EGT is a better way of measuring A/F ratio from what I understand. That and the hotter the exhaust, the hotter the turbo will get. Which will cause heat soak to the intake air.

I havent turbo'd, or worked on turbos though, just read a lot when I had my suby. www.nasioc.com had a lot of info. Probably a lot of similar stuff here.

I never found an answer to how they did this on the JDM MS8. I am waiting on Hymee's sCANalyser for DIGITAL gauges.

hi guys... i dont have the Turbo yet either but.... I have made a list of very good mods for my car here is one of them....acosta motorsports is offering a very nice 3 gauge pod for the rx-8 . it's pricey. $435.00 but take a look at the pics and you'll see why.
it's at this site....

http://www.acostamotorsports.com/catalog/

click on the center gauge Pod Link.

they also make a 20B Rx-8 package for $60,000.00

That's the PTP gauge pod - acosta is reselling it. And the 20B will screw up the balance of the 8 - real ugly upgrade. Might as well get a 911 off E-Bay.

is that PTP gauge pod CF? cause if it came in the same material that part of the dash is already, i would jump on it, although with the defi gauges and defi brain unit and all, it seems like it would be a similar price as the MS setup.

I would love to see pics of it in the day light

Nemesis is right, that is the PTP part, they make it the piano black material that is like our centor console & side window control panels. I believe that is a picture off of Philodox's car. What I find odd is that PTP can't even supply the back orders of the people ordering from them, why would they have Acosta re-selling them.

I think the gauge pod is really nice. Most importantly it goes to the left for the LHD drivers.

But why do you have ext temp (and you can get this from the cat temp from CAN tool) and fuel pressure while you have no turbo.

THe more important in an already hot engine like 13B is the oil temp, water temp and oil pressure. It is the ROTARY setup for me personally.

Ahh...is the vehicle dynamics processor hooked up to my pioneer avh-7500dvd reciever. Its pretty cool because i can choose the differen gauge layout. Different colors, and theres this on layout where i can make it look like the cars stock gauges.
