LOC Help!

Ok... So I have an '04 with Bose and am putting two Rockfod Fosgate P2D212's in a sealed RX8 enclosure with a Rockford Fosgate P500-2 amp... I am good with audio wiring with an aftermarket HU set-up but I want to retain the factory HU... I like how it looks and i want to keep the in dash cd changer... So the question is what LOC do i need for my system to sound good? Im not looking to spend a ton of money on a loc and do not know what kind to get. PS i did search. Please no bashing.
Thanks!

didnt search well, i answer this myself at least once a month. :P

its recommended to use an active LOC something like the LC6i or similar.

Its too expensive. Like i said in the origional, i dont want to spend a ton of money on a loc...

they sell them at best buy for $20. its a 2 channel LOC.

well what he said then^^ or a Davide Navone NE-7V

but if when your amp/headunit act funny in the future, consider this the #1 suspect behind user/install error

just realized he had the bose system. if you had the base system it would be much simpler. you need to locate the bose amp in the trunk. tap into the rear speaker wires before they get sent to the amp for the LOC. take a look at the sticky for wire coloring and locations, etc. here's my thread to use as a guide, but remember mine is the base stereo system.

Tap before the Bose amp if using an active LOC such as the Audiocontrol or JL Audio unit. Tap after the Bose amp if you're just using a passive LOC such as the cheap ones sold at BB or Wally World.

Ok... sorry if its a dumb question but is an active loc the same as an adjustable loc? and i want my subs sound to be quiet with the volume down and when i turn up te tunes i want the sub to adjust. I that the difference between the audiocontrol and a regular loc?

BoardSnow6 05-16-2010 09:10 PM

Anyone?

firebirdude 05-17-2010 06:33 AM

No, active and adjustable are not the same. And regardless of which LOC you choose, the volume of the subs will adjust with the volume of the rest of the speakers. Just grab a 2-channel $25 LOC from best buy and tap it off your rear speakers. Good to go.

Ok thanks! I was just wondering because a friend of mine had a loc on is grand am and he had to manually adjust the bass level from his stock headunit.

And why is using a standard loc so bad compared to the audiocontrol? Is sound quality that much different?

And for the install, would a t-tap suffice?

firebirdude 05-17-2010 06:23 PM

If your just adding subs, it's not a big deal. Go with the cheap one. T-taps are fine providing they make a solid cut through the insulation and are secure. But might think about saving yourself the possible problems by just cutting and soldering the wires. Still only takes a minute.

BoardSnow6 05-18-2010 12:56 PM

Ok. Are people adding the audiocontrol are wanting it for more adjustablility for aftermarket speakers?

firebirdude 05-18-2010 07:35 PM

Essentially. Grabbing the signal before the Bose amp has a chance to EQ the hell out of it. But the signal simply isnt strong enough to use a simple unpowered LOC before the amp.

BoardSnow6 05-21-2010 01:27 PM

Ok. So really, no matter what the set-up, unless you would be using an aftermarket hu, a simple loc would be the most "practical?"

firebirdude 05-21-2010 04:32 PM

Those just adding subs aren't going to see any real benefits from using the high-end LOCs. Those replacing all the cabin speakers and powering them with aftermarket amps will.

Both scenarios are assuming you keep the stock headunit. Wouldn't need a LOC if you were going aftermarket. ;)

Right and thanks
