Question Is a line converter the answer?

My setup is as follows:

Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4
MB Quart 6 1/2" Premium components (front)
MB Quart 6 1/2" Discus components (rear)

Phoenix Gold Tantrum 300.2 bridged
JL Audio 10W3v2

All bose speakers/amplifiers were removed except the center speaker and rear amplifier. The 300.2 is picking up a signal after the rear amp. That being said, I have two really annoying problems with which I need help:

1. Although the system sounds fantastic when the volume is turned up, at low levels I can detect noise.
2. The noise becomes even more annoying if I turn the HU off because the amplifiers stay on (since, by necessity, they're using the cigarette lighter for the remote power-on).

Everything I've read indicates that the line-level converters are most likely introducing the noise. Although the thread below is mostly over my head, my interpretation is that the devices they're discussing can convert the line-level signal to a usable preamp signal without introducing more noise as well as provide a remote power-on for the amplifiers (by sensing the voltage to the speakers). Is that correct? If so, then that should solve both my problems, assuming the noise is coming from the line-level converters and not elsewhere. At the very least it should allow me to turn off the amplifiers. For my setup, which of those devices would you guys recommend?

Finally, the HU in my previous car (Alpine CD-9813) had a separate channel for the subwoofer. Since these converters, at best, only have 4 channel output, should I just tap into the rear channels for the subwoofer's amplifer?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Try grounding for your amps in different areas. Make sure they all don't go to same spot. Anything more than doing that is above my head.

DrEvil: What brand/model of line converter are you using?

I've noticed that many converters are housed in a plastic case, which can be a problem for low-level signals. If you're tapping into the output of the Bose amp, this is probably less of an issue.

AudioLink (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-z5JZW8a...roup.asp?g=721) and SoundGate (http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounlocbosli.html) both have converter models in aluminum cases.

Once I have my replacement HU tuner module, I'll do a bit of experimenting to see what sounds best.

Also, companies like Peripheral sell a trigger device that supposedly generates an amp remote signal from a speaker output wire (Model #LVT2, available from SoundDomain...)

The grounding point for the amp is also very important, and may require experimentation to find a low-noise ground path. As car accessories are turned on and off, the ground level at different points on the chasis can change, thereby causing noise.
