I'm sure you could go to a local upholstery shop and show them the console cover and they could re-cover it with whatever material / color you wanted. Might be a good idea for a group buy actually... maybe I will see if I can find out how much it would cost to re-cover one with leather. But then again -- you would be without a console cover for a couple days :\

really not a big deal whatsoever...you could just lay a small board there in the meantime to rest your arm on

Is this cover any stronger than the stock one? I have a feeling my stock cover is going to break really soon as its so flimsey and I always seem to knock it out of alignment.

Structurally it looks the same. The top however has a little cushion to it, so it is not as hard as stock.

Thumbs up

Whew, one month later and I finally put them on. They look awesome. It's nice how the Chapparel covers break up the black. They went on in about 5 minutes. Front slides right in and the brear needs to be pryed off the framing. The new ones come with a frame for the rear, but you don't need to replace that. Now my originals get put away for the future if I ever break or rip the leather ones. The leather also feels softer than the hard vinyl ones.

Mine stock cover is starting to do something wierd--the actual covering is starting to 'pop' up. It has the look of one of those convertible tops that is having the wind 'inflate' them. The dealer said I need to go back to the dealer that sold me the car--but that sounds like pass the bucket action; so I'll probably just replace it with the black leather ones. Thew--can you post a pic of the actual piece? All of the pics that I have seen aren't really good quality.

They are the same unit as what you have now except its leather and has more padding.. infact on the new 2005 white rx8 "i think" they are now standard equipment. The pic i have is a composit of all the colors and the unit.. but like i said tonight i should have that up on mazdaparts.com...

I would love to get in on a group buy for that. I need one to match the Polak leather shift boot I just put on (black with tan stitching). I'd also love to have a matching e-brake handle. If you come up with a way to do this, let me know. I could live without the cover for a bit.
