iPod Navigation control
I finally got my '09 GT this past Wednesday! The Sarkling Black Mica is beautiful!! For me, part of the deal-breaker for getting an RX8 was being able to use my iPod in the car, something even Mazda told me can't be done, at least not with the Nav system. The limited information I could find online about it made me think it would. I told my sales guy if it doesn't work then there's a new MINI in my future, I'm replacing an '03 Cooper S. He finally found one of the service guys (even after getting turned down my Mazda himself) that told him it would work. So we tried it, and it does, and beautifully I might add. Since I got very few replies to previous posts about this, I'm guessing there aren't many that care about this, but for those that do, here are some screen shots. I'm surprised with everybody else touting their "Sync" system etc. that Mazda is not even aware that their cars do this.

Very cool
Nice pics - thanks man!!!!!
I've been on the fence with the iPod - my son has 4 of them, so I KNOW, he'd "donate" one to the cause
Up to now, I've got 3 CD's full of MP3's (450 songs), but an iPod would save me burning 'em
May I ask what the install (hours) and parts costs to get the integration? I assume the iPod lays in the glove box?
Thanks,
Steve

Cost, etc
It was around $300 installed. There are two parts used, a wiring harness and a box that translates iPod into head unit. I don't know how long it took them to install, it was done before I picked it up. I've done these types of installs before and they took me a few hours, but that's with having to figure out a lot of stuff on my own without instructions.
The dock connector goes in the glove box and the iPod would just lay in there. I've actually got a little "dock" unit that the connector fits into and then all I have to do is slip the iPod in and out of the dock.

I have another question for you.
Do you have a Sat/Nav system? I've read (but it may be the un-educated again) that the iPod adapter won't work if you have the factory Sat radio.
Thanks,
Steve

SAT will work
That might have been true with earlier models, but not with the '09. See the "Source Select" screen pic in the first post. There is a special wiring harness that comes with the iPod kit that has to be installed if the SAT is to be used. I didn't bother with that as I don't use SAT radio.
