Interior lights to L.E.D

Well I finally did it. This is a really easy and fun project. It only cost me about $15 and took about one hour, about 10 min for the side light and dome and the rest for that hard as hell map light. The map light is just a trick, you dont need a lot of force at all once you know how to get it out. Sorry about the flash in the pic, but you can see the lights.

Is that the light making your clothes look so odd? J/k

Good work, blue is a cool color on the interior.

That's cool. Where do you get the parts and instructions for that type of modification? I'd like to do something like that to my baby.

I got the L.E.D'S from Pep boy's. The LED'S are 194's, you just need 4 one for each door and two for the map lights. don't remember what the dome light was. to get the door light cover of was easy and so was the dome light. The tool I used was wierd, it was the handle of a screw driver but instead of have a type of bit at the end it has a metal looking tooth pic that has a curve on it, I dont know what it's used for but it is perfect for the light project. The only problem I had was with the map lights. It is all techniqe when it come's to the map lights. first you take the two screws that are located behinde you sun glass holder. Put some *** behind it or they wount come undone. after they pop it's easy sailing for that step. next pull down towards the floor the part of the map light console that is closest to the window, that shold come down very easy, if you look at the part thats hanging down you will notice their are clips back their DO NOT UN CLIP IT. I did, it was a pain. Ok so as it stands you have the side closest to the window down a bit but the front part closest to you is still in their. Try to picture in your head that to the right and left sides of that console are rails that you can't see. thats why the map light console won't just come down, You have to slide it towards the windshield and then wounce you well it come free it will come down. their will be two wires, don't bother with them, I was able to change the lights with no problem. The part where you have to slide the console towards the window was not easy, but once you do it once it's very easy the next time you wan't to change the light. Hope this helps.

There is a metal tab on the side. It is closer to the lights themselves. You need to use a screw driver to depress it before you the remove the unit. It is quite easy to find once you know what are looking for.

stick a flat screwdriver in there to push the metal tabs. I believe they are about where the maplight button and the maplight are on the side.

for the map light i just unscrwed it, pull the front down, pull the whole thing towards the windshield so theres nothing in the way of the clips and it just slides out...

for the other lights you just pop open the plastic cover with a flat head.. theres a little indent to fit the flat head in on one of the sides of all the covers....

ps what brand led lights did you use? mine were $1.98 so im not sure if they're as strong? also map light took me 5 minutes... (done it before) and cant imagine the rest being more then 2-3 minutes

So it was just a matter of taking out the bulbs and replacing it with led's, or did you have to mess around with wires and changing the housing as well?
Either way it looks dope!

I tried to remove the map light as described above, but still cant do it. The front of the console (towards the window) drops down as stated, but I cant get the thing to slide. How far does the front actually drop? I mean, will it drop far enough to see a gap? Also.... I have the power mirror, and a sunroof. Would either of these interfere with the removal? Any help would be appreciated!

I got the 3022 x4 LED Festoon bulb for the dome light. the courtesy lights I got the 6-LED T13 Wedge Base LED bulb. The maplights I got the non-polarized WLED 6-LED bulb (because I wasn't sure if the other ones would fit)

here's a pic. if you stick a flat screwdriver there to push in the metal tab, you can just pull it down.

Arrow Front....

Screwdriver goes in each side, at the end of the buttons.

Small metal tabs sticking out, just bend them towards the housing and pull down. Don't try to slide forward, the tabs will bite into the liner.

You can see the metal between buttons and light. Sorry for the crappy .jpg!

Thanks for the info! I had actually found the right info on another thread. Those tabs are definitely info that needed to be shared! It took me 2 hours to actually find the tab info "searching". Sometimes just asking the question again saves a whole lot of agony!

Thanks again!

You guys are going to think I am a real idiot when I say this but.. I got the map light out in about 5 minutes and another 5 installing lights and putting back in, no prob. Now I am stuck of the door lights, I got the plastic off but cannot get the damn bulb out because its such a small hole, I can only barley fit 2 fingers in there. None of them just want to come out. Haha, any tips?

Ha! okay, so I got the driver side door light out, I just yanked my whole hand out instead of gently pulling and it flew out of my hand under the car and across the garage.lol. Now on to the passenger side, that technique seems to work. Good thing it was the old light.

for the door lights, would the WLED 5-LED Wide Angle LED bulb from superbrightleds.com would be a good idea?

5 would work but I really like my 6. Little brighter than the 5. It might be a couple cents more expensive though. 194 is the code for the map lights and courtesy lights. I just ordered some 9led festoon bulbs in white for my dome light. That was the expensive one. 2.95+2.00 for white.

It won't make a difference trust me. The 6 led ones are already extrememly bright (at least my white) They have the same end as the clear corners sort of. Fits in the same way.
