Installing a car alarm system
Alright well I bought the viper 5901 car alarm system with dei 530t automatic window roller, tilt sensor and glass break sensor. My thing is I bought the relays I need for the truck and dome light and I bought the 791 bypass module. The only thing I don't get is "an extra iginition key", what does that mean? Like an extra key at the dealership? :banghead:

Anyone?

Yeah, with that style of bypass you need a programmed chip key and you use it with the bypass.

All bypass module's for our cars require two keys in order to program the only way to do it with one key is to remove the chip in your key place it in a universal bypass module linked below but to then have this immobilizer activated at all times otherwise your key will no longer work. Or you can go to the dealer and have them code you another key.

I wouldn't suspect they would, i would be surprised if it was over a 100 bucks to code the key. Realistically looking around 50 bucks still sucks though

I was an installer for years, doing anything from radio's to extravagant fiberglass systems. The Viper system you went with to me is one of the best now make sure your get the smart start add-on feature. Unfortunately though that has to be programed at a direct vender as a code is needed for the smart start systems that DEI does not give out to anyone but authorized vendors. Once I get a free day this is the system i am putting into my 8, but I am also adding advancedkeys push button start setup :)

A long ways away from austin, I never used tilt, proximity or glass sensors my experience is they are usually finicky and unreliable I just incorporated basic alarm functionality. For added fun you can get a recordable siren and record anything you want the siren to say when the alarm goes off. I will give a word of caution that if you are inexperienced with wiring and understanding principals of basic electricity to get this installed professionally, one wrong connection and you could fry an input or output of a BCM ECU or worse all of which are costly repairs.

Well just an update, I finally took in my car yesterday to get the alarm system installed and window module. The shop called me back and informed me that my car will take longer than usual. The reason being is the remote start which they just now got over, was over cracking when the remote start was use. The window module on the other hand they said was another pain, they told me they never had a customer come in with an RX8 before, they always get GM cars, BMWs, Mercedes, exotics and economic cars that you see everyday on the road. They told me to keep it one more night and should be ready by the afternoon tomorrow or else they'll give me a discount for an incomplete job and bring it in another day to finish on them. I guess it comes to show you that RX8's really are a rare jewel to some automotive shops lol :)

Also should be noted that are cars are common for remote starts and after market alarms. Are antitheft is no different then any other other Mazda Models and is identically to all late model Fords. This shop sounds like they have no idea what there doing.

I guess just to update on this, I had to get another viper system for my car due to the system being out of date since it was 3 years old and just didn't work for my 8 as far as the remote start is concerned. With the warranty I upgraded to the 5704 model which is basically the 5901 of 2012. Everything works fine and the remote start feature works great. I did had to dish another $100 for the install and kicking my butt about it. But in the end it's a nice system to have. I know I'll get burned for this but oh well it's rather they do it or I do it and burn my ECU on my 8 lol. Will make a video on it for sure by tomorrow, if anyone is interest in seeing how it works but I'm sure many of you here on the forums have it already.
