Lightbulb i Want everyones opinion on Sony PSP install in the RX8. thank you

hello people. i currently have just the factory cd player unit in my rx8. i would like to get opinions from everyone on installing the sony psp with a p.i.e. connector IN the overhead sunglasses storage tray so it flips out, will it fit? i just got the deminsions from the internet (dont own a psp, yet) gonna do some measurements.

the only after problem after that (besides fab. work) is controlling it. the only remote offered is with the headphones and the male end has both the remote connection and headphone side by side as one, how could i get around that?

thanks

I have my psp hooked up through direct line-in mod. Alot of work went into this, just for a line-in. The psp wont fit in the sunglasses area without some dremel work. To this day I haven't found a place to put my psp while my mp3's are playing. So I just put it under the armrest. There's a company coming out with a cool car kit. I'll find it and post it here for you, bud.

Tx

hey thanks for the input TxRx8. yeah i do plan on some fabrication work to have the psp "sit" in the sunglasses tray. when you say direct line in mod you mean the one posted along time ago that goes directly into the cd unit? and another question does anyone know how much the glasses tray costs, in case i mess it up?

thanks

The line-in mod was the one from a long time ago. It was originally for the ipod. I think the name of the thread was "Ipod your Rx-8." Not to sure though. I had to remove the head unit completely, dismantel it and find the left and rigt channels to cling on to. As for the sunglasses holder mod, it's the perfect location for the psp. But for now I'm going to order the "Black" PSP Car Kit. It looks really promising. It just came out like a week ago I think. But anyways here's the link:

If you ever do the sunglasses mod, post up a DIY. BTW is you mess up your sunglasses holder it shouldn't be more than 30 bucks for another one. I'll find out tho. If it's not expensive I'll do it too. The only problem I see would be routing the line-in cable up to the top behind the sunglasses area. But two minds are better than one. So if you need any other help just post it up here.

Later,
Tx

Wouldn't it be easier to make yourself a rail system under the CD player, cut a slot on the lower face plate, and install the PSP like that? You slide the psp out length wise, then do a 90 degree turn to sit the psp right side up. And if you do a swing arm on the rail, then you can adjust the psp to any viewing angle you want.
