Ignition Start Button Installed
Well folks, I think I finally might have something unique in my 8 in the US. I ordered the Ignition Start Button from Maurice (Canzoomer) and it showed up this morning.
The problem is...The mounting hardware is only setup for Right Hand Drive cars. After much internal debate I decided to mount the button in place of the cigarette lighter as I do not smoke.
I was thinking about mounting it centered on the blank plate for the MD player still not sure which is the best spot.
I will hopefully get a couple of pictures together so you can check it out. There is a definite "cool" factor with having a start button.

They do sell plain start buttons, illuminated start buttons and security start buttons (requiring a button push sequence to start) in Japan... you could just mount one of them in a blank spot next to the DSC switch...

The appeal that the Mazda button had was that it is plug and play. Still a little difficult to install but NO WIRE CUTTING is the best feature. I would not butcher my ignition wiring harness just for a start button. I'll attach some pics next. What do you guys think (Lighter Replacement or under the Radio in the MD player spot?)

There were 2 issues with the install
1) I couldn't remove the button from the metal mounting brack which is quite big (It is the size of the coin holder) so I used a dremel cut off wheel to cut it just behind the backing plate of the button.
2) After I plugged it in, it didn't work. There are basically 2 plugs, a ground wire, and a pin replacement which all are very clear in the instruction pictures to hook up. The pin replacement goes into the connector for the gauge cluster (I am thinking that the left hand drive gauge cluster does not have the ground signal the unit is looking for.) I used a wire tap to bridge the wire going to the gauge cluster to the ground wire and it works great.
If it is done this way from the start, you save a lot of time as you do not have to remove the gauge cluster. Though the gauge cluster comes out surprisingly fast (Maybe 5 minutes to remove the gauges)

I'll see if I can find a site on the buttons. I saw them today when I was at Jim's and Yellow Hat.
No wire cutting is necessary my man... use wire taps.

I found the site... http://www.the-pivot.co.jp/product/flame-starter.html
The buttons are made by "Pivot" who also makes gauges and shift lights.
Below is the security button when the car is off.

The cost of the kit was $225 from Canzoomer. The labor could be done inside of 1 hour. Depending on the shop rate that you bring the kit to, your total could be $300. It is a pretty easy install except for the mounting of the button itself. Not an issue if you have a RHD RX-8 though...
