i WANT TO SEE PICS OF OTHER 8'S ENCLOSURES AND SETUPS

HEY ALL..... IF ANYONE CARES TO SHARE THERE WEBSITES OR RANDOM PICS OF THERE SET UPS. I JUST RECENTLY PUT A 10 W7 IN MY CAR WITH AN ENCLOSURE AND SET UP I DID MYSELF WHICH I WILL SEND TO ANYONE... IM NOT SURE IM GETTING TO MAX OUT OF THIS SETUP SO I WAS WONDERING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COME UP WITH... HERE IS MY FINISHED PAGE OF MY CAR

MY RIDE ENCLOSURE SUB AND SETUP

TELLME WHAT YOU THINK

Kel Rx8 09-08-2005 07:42 PM

damn bro that looks nice and sweet
I cant even think of the punch that w7 must have
I currently have 2 10'' w3 and looking to add 2 more on my custom fiberglass boxes.

hey I noticed you have the sevn2 I was thinking of using how do you like it ? I think my LOC is not cutting it.

HardHitter 09-08-2005 07:43 PM

Looks good, how does it sound? I really want to add a system, but I'm scared of how much weight it will add to the car. W7's alone weight around 40-50lbs, plus the box, it's about another extra 100+lbs.

mrkinn 09-08-2005 07:56 PM

thanks guys.... sven2 is great compard to others i dont know... i figured they have been in ther game for awhile so i figured it would be the best... its sounds pretty good. but im still convinced that it can sound better... but im not sure what it is. enclosure, convertor, amp.. i mean its a 3 ohm sub and when u start messing with the conf. of ohms you lose alot... i bulit the enclosure to jl specs so i dont know..
hard hitter u are right the sub does weight alot 35 40 lbs i think for the 10 the box wasnt to heavy 30-40 but see i have neever been big on speed i liek it but i have always been a music man bass good clean sound. i had a 95 gsx eclipse i had 4 15;s in it and i tore it all out and put 1 jlw7 12" in it and i sware to you i was just a loud as my 4 15's were.. here a link to that page

mrkinn: not bad...

Kelrx8: i though you made yours out of wood... do you plan to paint or carpet the FG boxes... im FINALLY near completion and im telling you it is a HELLLA lot of work.. especialy if you paint.. my paint got messed up sooooooo many times... hope youre good with painting...

Hardhitter: you can always buy terminal cups to install on your boxes so when you go to the strip or race you can take the subs/amps out... thats one thing i had in mine when i did mine..

here are some pics i took before i had to strip my paint and repaint my boxes...

HardHitter 09-08-2005 08:15 PM

Yeah, I've had a 12W7 and everything. www.sounddomain.com/id/hardhitter2k3 is my page for my Blazer that I did a lot of setups for. I installed everything for that car. I'm debating on what to do for the 8. I'm thinking maybe just a single 8W7 and 500/1 but I don't know. Like you said, I just want SQL.

mrkinn 09-08-2005 08:25 PM

looks like you bulit nice enclosures brian.... i am a huge fan of jl subs i havent heard or seen any amps yet, but i think im gonna get rid of my 1100d and get a 500/1 for the 10.
i used to be spl spl spl but now im getting older i still want a sub that will boom when i want it too....

lil ben- have u heard the subs on the pods?? i am curious i love the setup only one problem for me my golf clubs need that area to fit in my trunk lol

Kel Rx8 09-08-2005 08:26 PM

lilbenny currently have 2 10'' in a mdf box rear facing
but now adding 2 more 10 in the side enclosures liek you did.yeah paint is a mission
I may just carpet, but painting skills are pretty good plus I have a compressor and a paint gun.but I think its mostly about using the right materials.ex primer, paint.
also what amp U running ? 500/1
oh yeah right now im running a kicker amp but I swear my mock up amp (planet audio )I used sounded maybe cleaner.weird
still have alot of playing around back there

LiL BenNy 09-08-2005 10:15 PM

havent installed anything yet so no clue how they sound.. i got some used.. so i wouldnt even know if they work to be honest...

im gonna be running 2 500/1 1 to each sub... lol overkill?

Kel Rx8 09-08-2005 11:14 PM

Kel Rx8 09-08-2005 11:14 PM

I know it's been a while & I sound kinda lame. It's really lame but I got the run around about the parts getting re-painted. It was kinda difficult because my audio installer deals with the bodyshop directly so I didnt have much say on it. As long as it's going to get done right, I'll accept the long lag even though it's still kinda lame when you pay top dollar & still get stalled. I'm going to drop by the shop this Saturday to at least get some info & update on the progress.

Here's some pics of my setup I did about a year ago. Its 1 12w-7 in a sealed box powered by a jl1000x1 which is under a sheet of plexi. There are two fans that I installed in front of the amp to keep the temps down, hard to see them in the pic though.

I am getting ready to redo it though, I want to go with a ported box to get the extra sound output. Its going to require a fiberglassed box though since it needs to be so big. I also want to etch a jl symbol into the plexi and put a neon under it.

mrkinn 09-09-2005 08:16 PM

nice pics your set up is very similar to mine but not to many options we can do here.... does anyone think that knows about jl is the 1000/1 over kill for a 10??? i was gonna get the 500/1 but i dont wanna short myself cuz i have a 1100d dei which i think is a pretty good amp...

LiL BenNy 09-09-2005 09:00 PM

idk not a system expert but i know the jl lines of W7 need lottsssss of power...

It's kind of an overkill but it can work. You need to turn down the gains on the amp. More power to speakers is not as bad as people think as long as it's not playing for a very long period of time. Stay away from DEI car audio stuff, they ruin alot of good companies like PPI when they bought them out & PPI's product quality went way down same goes for Orion when DEI bought them out.

HardHitter 09-10-2005 03:21 AM

You can run the 1000/1 on the 10W7, but like Tru said, keep the gains down. Once you start clipping, you start sending distorted power to the sub and that's how you blow subs. You need to know how to set the gains on your amp so the amp won't clip. Also depends on the box you put the sub in. If you put the sub in a small sealed box, the sub is going to need less power to move air as if it was in a bigger sealed box. Same thing with ported, you're going to need a little more power to get the sub moving, but nothing too much. You could probably run around 750W of clean power to the 10W7 and running it all day without any problems. They are great subs.

false floor as in the amp cover??? if ur talking about that i just used 1/4 inch pegboard crap.. for the enclosure i used 3/4 mdf... look at my websire on cardomain.com link is somewhere in this thread to see

hey tru681 the dei i have is there gen 1 1100d which got great reviews but i heard the latest stuff wasnt to good.. but do you think im gonna benifit by putting a 500/1 and taking the 1100d away... or should i just get a 1000/1 for it...

Kel Rx8 09-10-2005 07:15 PM

thanks yeah the amp rack, Ive seen the pegboard used often but trying to see if a noticeable difference between msd & pegboard or plywood
enclosure I always used mdf
thanks again

Well, the 500/1 JL slash is perfect for 1-10w7 setup. I will get the 500/1 if I'm planning to stick with that set-up & wont be changing it. If you plan on adding another sub or replacing it with a more power hungry sub in the near future, I would definately get the 1000/1 for now & just turn the gains all the way down on the amp for your 10w7. Oh yea, the older DEI stuff is definately better built & higher quality & the new stuff I heard is crap. The way car audio works these days is more power=better product, that's what they are trying to amke us think & it definately tricked most of us out there. These days most companies tries to built the beefiest amps instead of putting up quality all around it ,they focus on putting out as much watts as they can. That's why most old school gear will be better than the new generation stuff. Also, I've seen alot of popular old school gear that's made in the early 90's that still goes for well over $1000 because it's known to be top quality stuff & way out performs the newer generation stuff.

mrkinn 09-11-2005 11:27 AM

i really dont think im gonna go any larger then a 10 anymore.. then again i said that with 12'2 then i put 4 - 15's in my older car.. its sad to say im getting older and its time to tone it down SOME not much but some.. i am gonna get a 500/1 and see what sounds better.. the one problem i have right noe with the converter is that i set the volume at say 10 and the bass is still strong.. and it seems i have alot of vocals in my sub which i cant stand.. the dei amp doesnt have a cross over on it i dont think... so i need to elimiante that. it hink the jl amp has all those gadgits.

This is the setup that i am using in my car now.
2 12" pioneer premier subs with a 500/1 JL amp
A fiberglass box that me and a friend made.

mrkinn 09-12-2005 04:03 PM

hey kevin how does that sound.. are you under powing those subs with a 500/1 does that 500/1 have a bulit in cross over in it to take out the voicals in the subs??

buyinan8 09-14-2005 10:17 PM

Not to hijack the thread, but what are you guys using as a ground point for your setups? I have a small system right now, not drawing a lot of power, so i wasn't all anal about having the best ground point. But after seeing this thread, I think i want to go with a similar setup and i'd just like to know where you guys are grounding. :)

Kel Rx8 09-14-2005 11:35 PM

grounded my amp to the trunk,I found no need to run back to battery
take off the black cover (pop up) that is over the trunk latch U will see a ground on a 12mm bolt.

mrkinn 09-15-2005 07:52 PM

yea thats where i grounded the cover that covers the taillights and hatch hooker deal. i just scrapped some paint away and with a self tapper grounded it.

success07 12-13-2007 02:22 PM

I know this post is two years old but... any finished pics on Tru's setup... and I have to agree abotu the old school stuff. I had an Orion HCCA, honking anodized and etched aluminum, red amp that ran 800x1 into 1(Birth SHeet 1277x1 into 1ohm) and that was the best sub amp I'ver personally every worked with. It has no later then late 90's. I ran so many different setups with that amp in multiple different cars. That amp got passed through a combination of 5 of my freinds and was still KICKING. I would roughly estimate that that amp had been installed in 20 different systems, running anywhere from 1 sub to 4... All applications were happy as long as they got the right power/impedance matchup.

nuke0907 12-14-2007 11:55 PM

here's mine. still not done yet. i need to make a false floor for my amp.
