How to install ps3?

Ok so I bought a ps3 and never use it at all. I decided it would probably get more use if I install it i my car. I am wondering what all I need to do this? I don't want to spend a lot of money either because I'm trying to save for rims and exhaust. Also if there is anyone who knows of a tutorial that would be amazing. Thanks, Phill

why? can't be for blu ray, cause you don't have hidef screen in your car. Can't be for the games, cause there's barely any..

Also the PS3 generates a lot of heat and uses a lot of power. Really, if you don't use it, I'd suggest selling it off. You can get a slim PS2 instead for DVDs and games.

Well i tried selling it but cant seem to get anything for it. I know it sucks but I can store music and movies on there. It would be cheaper then building a carputer even though thats what i really want to do.

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead... but I want to do something like this as well.

My ps3 sits in my room and I never touch it unless I get the urge to do some rockin on guitar hero. I want to use it for storing music and videos for road trips n stuff.

Did you ever find a solution? Or anyone out there know of a way, or just have a link to a website?

Looking to have the ps3 connected to my Nav Screen w/ sound of course. Blu Ray isnt very important at this point (I know the stock nav screen isnt HD).

Thanks!!!

First, you would need some sort of DC-> AC inverter to power the PS3. Once you have that, you would need a method of getting the video signal to the nav screen. The nav system uses composite video IIRC, so I think it's possible to splice into the wire for that, and put a switch there to send only one signal to the screen at a time.

Personally, I'd buy one of the boxes that are sold for just this purpose. The one that does audio and video is a bit pricey, but the one that does just video isn't that bad. Go big, or go home.

You'd also need somewhere to mount the ps3 and some method of turning it on and off.

I don't think it's worth it to put a console who's only good game is Gran Turismo in a car.

unless u can watch videos while driving or play video games while driving, how does putting it in the car make it more useful? LOL (both those are illegal, btw.)

just get some good blue ray movies and start watching. i also recommend getting Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. those will keep u occupied for a bit.

FYI, You cannot substitute the RX-8's steering wheel for the controller when playing GT5. And GT5 does not control your actual car.

I did the car computer thing. Never again. Too unreliable. Especially when it comes to volume control. Then you have to configure a front end, deal with nav software, integration of the nav software with the front end. A switch to remotely reboot the thing when it pukes.

6CD head unit and OEM nav in the 8 beat the crap out of car computers, and this is coming from someone who ran one for years. Nothing in the world beats a system that always just works.

I agree with Socket7.

Anyway.. it would be so unpractical installing the PS3 in your car. If anything I'd probably put a PS2 slim in there.. or something. PS3 sucks too much power and games look crap on non-HD screen.

I second the slimline PS2. All you'd need for it is something to stabilize your chunky 14V car power and step it down to the right voltage for the PS2. I had a thing i bought from radioshack that did exactly that. Cost me like 20 bucks. I used it to power my xenarc touchscreen.

Of course, the best game for the PS2 is Gran Turismo as well. So again, it's kinda not worth it in the 8.

I second the idea of using a power inverter. But make sure you get a quality one. Don't want to fry your circuits.

And keep your battery in check.. Don't want to be stranded and have to call AAA. Of course you should get Tekken, because it's obviously the best game on PS2.
