Homelink Mirrors

Doe the homelink mirrors work with only specific, compatible equipment or can they "learn" the signal of just about any garage door opener? If the latter is the case, does anyone here happen to have a spare mirror for sale? And how is it wired up compared to a standard mirror? Mine only came with the basic mirror, and seeing as there are three remote control signals for the place I live, it would be perfect

Yes, the Homelink system is a learning transmitter.

Not sure if it has an external brain though.

I'm wondering more about power, does it run off the main power of the car (and hence require wiring up), or has its own power source (batteries)?

It has a harness that hooks to it.

Thinking about it, it must have an external brain.

Weird, that's what most people say about me...

Ah well... Too bad I guess! Don't feel like hacking up the car so much, not yet anyway!

did the research a while back. you will need to power the mirror in the head liner. the harness is not given in the base model. you could wire into the lights, but the power is on all the time. dont know if that is good or bad.

if you are going to buy a used one out or a 8 you need to be sure that you get the windshield button. it is different than the one on the base and the sport.

if you are going to buy a new one once again you need to get the button.

it is a start.

good luck.

This is a generic install a person wouldn't need to route to the temperature sensor since it is displayed in the dash already. Like Swoope said it does not matchup with the Sports package windshield mount.

I would think it would just need to be hooked up down in the drivers side kick and run up to the headliner.
