High output Alternator

Anyone using a high output alternator for the stereo system. Did you have any problems with mounting or blowing fuses or any other problems.
I am looking at buying a 180 or 200 amp Iraggi Alternator.

If You have a high output alternator list what brand and how many amps.

Thanks
U1cracka

Thankls I have also used irragi alts before and can say they are great.
Was just asking if anyone had a high output Alt installed to see if they had any problems.

Thanks

Is there anywhere aside from E-bay you can pick up iraggi alternators? Do they have a webpage or contact info?

Thanks

RWagz 12-18-2007 12:51 AM

Sorry to resurrect this thread...Iraggi appears to operate mainly through eBay and I don't see that they offer an alt for 8's.

kimota 12-18-2007 04:46 AM

I was able to find Iraggi's email he responded that he does built RX8 alternators new :) picking up a 220 amp one next week.

picking up? so that means this guy is FL? could you post his web address or e-mail? i'd be interested in getting a higher output alternator for the 8 somewhere down the road, but i'm very interested in getting a high output unit for the 7 really soon.

What was the final cost? What is idle output? I too live in Florida and would be interested for the right price.

kimota 12-18-2007 09:53 AM

Sorry for the confusion I don't believe that he is located in Florida. I plan on having it shipped to me below is the exact email he sent me.

We build new.
180 $419
200 $439
220 $459

Thanks, Dom

Found his ebay store site NOTE RX8 is not listed there but in the email he sent me he says he can make them

Ouch. Still too rich for my blood. I have boughten from Dom in the past and didn't spend THAT much..... I can't see the 8 alternator being that much more involved/expensive than most.

RWagz 12-19-2007 12:32 AM

Still, I might consider it. I have a strong urge to run my MMATS D300HC at 2ohm into an IDMAX 12". My last car audio install was...hell probably 4 years ago and even then I only ran the MMATS amp at 4ohm because I never managed to shoehorn two 15's into the back of my Monte Carlo (I DO NOT miss that fricking boat).

I guess I'll bookmark this thread and email him next year when I pull the 8 out of storage. Hopefully his prices go down. The issue is probably that he can't fit one of his standard alts into our application and has to 1-off each RX-8 alt he makes.

E: At that price, it makes absolutely no sense to go with anything other than the 220 amp unit - after 180amps, you pay $1 per amp extra.

E2: Also, this is a decent price if you compare to "group buy" pricing in this thread.

I am looking for an high output alternator and I came over this on ebay

Looks like a lot cheaper alternative than the ones mentioned earlyer.
Have anyone tried this out?

My main concern is if the 8 have enough torque to run this at idle speeds if I put it under load.

It's not a matter of the RX8 having enough power to spin the alternator. It's a matter of the alternator being built to output more amperage than the factory alt AT IDLE. That eBay listing doesn't mention idle output. And the fact it goes out of its way to state you must be at 2200RPM for rated output makes me a little uneasy. I'd email them and ask about idle output before buying, at least.

TeamRX8 06-14-2012 07:15 PM

I'd be even more uneasy about why you think 220A are required below 2200 rpm, which in an RX8 is more or less idle speed

and the RX8 has a "smart" alternator; it's output is controlled/regulated by the PCM. That's why it costs more than the "dumb" alternator

firebirdude 06-14-2012 07:31 PM

Tons of aftermarket amplifier brute force.

brute force wasn't the words I was considering ...

firebirdude 06-14-2012 08:11 PM

haha pretty much.

Trustnoone 06-15-2012 02:15 AM

Think you are right about idle output.

I did some digging after I made this post, and seems a lot of people are complaining about idle output of theese alternators. Guess I should aim for some higher quality alternators. Anyone have ideas where to begin?

WikkedOne 06-16-2012 03:28 PM

I have one, and I love it! no problems at all.

EXCEPT - don't order from http://www.qualitypowerauto.com - (like the ebay posting) they sent me one that would only charge the battery when the car was above 2,500 RPMS. So when I was at idle it was ONLY running off the battery, so I couldn't listen to my system at a stop light. I don't expect to get the full 200 amps, but there was < 10 amps at idle.

I called them to replace it and they gave me a really hard time about it. Long story short, I did get it replaced but got screwed out of a 20% restocking fee and shipping cost back to them. I would have gotten the full amount if I could sent it back for repairs, but I had it installed in the car and didn't have the stock one to use while they were repairing it.

firebirdude 06-16-2012 04:09 PM

Yep. I learned the hard way too. That's why I always make sure this is perfectly clear to fellow buyers.

Is this the alternator you said you bought?
If so, is it still functioning normally? If not, where did you get yours? I am only finding a few places that will even consider manufacturing HO alternators for Mazda vehicles. Something to do with the "PLD" regulator.. (?)
HighOutputAlternator.com quoted me $649 plus shipping... not.

WikkedOne 04-19-2013 03:22 PM

That's not the exact company ordered from (I ordered directly from Qulaity Power Auto) but after the headache of the first one I LOVE the second one. Been pushing solid for almost 2 years now. Definitely a good investment

Trustnoone 06-02-2013 05:39 AM

I have a Mechman high performance alternator at hand (240A). The seller says this has previously been used in a Mazda 323. I have tried searching for some kind of compabilitylist, but I'm out of luck.

Does anyone know if this alternator should fit in my 2004 RX-8? Is there any special considerations I should take, or is it plug&play if it fits?
