guage placement and wire position question

guage placement and wire position question
just have a couple questions/requests:
first off, I'm going to be installing a nitrous kit over the holidays and I plan on having a pressure guage but I'm not too sure where to put it. I've been looking at the dynotune rectangle guage and considered if I could manage to fit it cleanly in the place of the ash tray somehow. While I still havnt measured it out I'm also considering other options if that wouldnt work or if anyone else has a better idea for a placement. I'm not dead set on the rectangle guage either, so if there's a better spot for a round gauge that works as well. I'm mostly just looking for a good spot for it to fit and look clean.
Second question is quicker. I have a radar detector and for a while I've just been using the front cigarette lighter for the power and then had the wire folded up and slid into the gap caused by that little door/cover for the ash tray being open. But last night while I was considering the placement of the gauge I noticed that there was an outlet in the little compartment behind the cup holders. I then started remembering back to the install of my short shifter and got to thinking. I'm rather sure I could direct the wire under the cover of the shifter using electrical tape or a zip tie then using electrical tape I could route it around the cup holder and through the small gap between the cup holder and the compartment behind it to get to the outlet for a cleaner look. My only concern is if there would be any risk of it getting to warm around the shifter for the wire since it does seem to get pretty warm there sometimes. I also noticed a little hatch looking thing below the outlet... does that come out at all?

yes that little hatch comes out with the cig lighter included... i have the power for my xenarc touchscreen going there and routed to the top of the dash through your same route. i havnt had any problems and i have like 10 wires going through there... screen, pie adapter, rca cables, bass control wire, ground loop isolater wiring..... no heating or melting issues for me yet...

Don't bother running the detector down to the cup holder, run it along the side of the dash down to your fuse box(driver footwell) You can tap in there using a cheap splicing kit and have power without using any adapters or plugs(hardwired).
If you want to route wires through your cup holder area as mentioned earlier there's plenty of space. There's some directions in the DIY(or in an MP3 install thread) where you can get more detailed info. You basically can pull up the entire center peice with a few screws out in the rear seat center console area. I routed my Ipod into the center console dash area by using a file to create a gap in that power plug cap. The resulting install is very clean.
The hatch you're talking about does pop out. That's what I filed a gap into for the wires(popped the center housing out, filed the gap and put the center housing back in- perfect for cables!)

edit: I ended up leading it under the ash tray and coming out under by the steering column. For now I have it going through the little cover in the cup holders (the one you pull out to remove the shifter cover). I couldnt find how to get the rear portion of the center console up so that I could just have it come through that little hatch though. I found a few pictures of the end result but didnt quite figure out how to get it up for sure and I didnt want to break any of it so if I find out how I might do that soon. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, any ideas for gauge placement?

bump! I ordered the rectangle gauge yesterday so I'll figure that out with time. But I havnt found anything on how to get under the cup holders and the compartment behind them yet has there been any DIY with instructions on that? The cord I have atm is a bit too short so going to have to find a new one before I can do it anyways. I tried radioshack and the best they had was 8 feet and I'm rather sure the one I have is at least 6 so that -may- work but I wont know till I can actually see how much maneuvering I'll have to do to get around the cup holders.

The entire center console comes up from the rear. Look in the rear seats' center 'hatch' pull up the mat if there's one and there should be two(three?) screws. I'm saying this from my one time memory.
I think this thread has the instructions: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/works-ipod-adapter-w-real-text-display-121090/page2/

OK...what can I say...I'm a perfectionist like the rest of you. Honestly...I couldn't stand the way the wires went in and out of the cup holder. After some digging and a call to a friend I got the instructions for pulling apart the center console. I now have the iPod connection come through the rear cig. lighter hole allowing for a nice clean install. *sigh* Since I couldn't find anything anywhere on here about how to get it done...here you go.
I shall assume you followed the instructions so far to get the install done. Next remove the front screw from the cup holder.
Then remove the screw from the center glove box.
Followed by the two in the rear glove box and under the fold-down box.
Pop out the cig. lighter from the center glove box and remove the electrical components from the plastic. Drill a small hole in the plastic right under the hole and you get a nice fitting cable.
Snap her all back together and screw her up and yer all set to go.

No problem. My install is nearly identical to that install and I love it.
Yeah, the entire center console moves around once you've removed those screws- I didn't pull the whole thing up I just lifted it long enough to route the cabling around as needed. There's plenty of room under it.
