So I searched and searched and searched. And no one ever mentions how to install it. I would like to know the pros/cons with the ground loop isolator and what not. Here's my setup. I've got all the fancy audio stuff (see signature for details) and I'm using the Auxmod basic with a Creative Zen mp3 player. I finally broke down and bought the car charger for it because it finally became available. Well, needless to say if I plug it AND the auxmod headphone jack I hear the alternator whine and all that jazz. I want to be able to plug both in at the same time. Now a lot of people I've heard say the the GLI from Radio Shack reduces sound quality pretty bad. So is that the only thing that I could use? or is there something else to elimanate engine noise. Also, if it IS my only option, how do I install it? Thanks in advance.

 

no the gli does not change anything but the noise...

I also have the RadioShack GLI installed and have not had a perceivable change in the quailty of the music. I've had it installed in my Chevy truck for a long time.

Basically I installed it between my carputer and the input to the amps.


(If it's the same one I have, the one with RCA's on both ends and a largish round object in the middle)

Got it all, did it in the parking lot of radio shack, sounds wonderful. Just to run it by you and compare, here's the set up

Auxmod - Y- Adapter - GLI - Female RCA/Headphone jack - mp3 player - charger

Everything seems to be going fine. I just wondered if I should have a plain headphone cable in the loop somewhere. I saw it as excess so I didn't use it. Thanks for the help, I was worried I was going to have to splice some wires to get it to work.

Guys, think about this a little more. If the gli is removing the noise from the audio stream, it is also removing the exact same frequencies of music from the audio stream. The "whine" that you hear has a frequency range, the gli is removing that entire frequency range.

 

I see your point, but I havn't noticed any difference in my music whatsoever. I don't really know how it works to be honest and Swoope would be the man to answer that one. I think it has more to do with the current of electricity vs. the signal pitch.

You may not have noticed at all for this reason. The minute you plugged your unit in and used it, the noise was there. So you may not have ever heard what it was meant to sound like in the first place. Next as the whine is the more predominant sound that you are hearing, it masks the less powerful sound that is your music. Too bad we could not make one of these devices for the women in our lives....

Anyway, I actually had mine in there for almost two weeks before I hooked up the GLI. And like I said no real difference. If I had the volume turned up enough on the stereo I wouldn't really hear the whine unless I took my engine to about 7500. After installing it, there's no background noise, and like I said, everything seems to be the same. But I'm DEFINATLY no expert on this topic, just relaying my experiences.
