Question getting rid of the nav

I was just wondering if it is possible to take out the stock nav from my car i want to get the ms gages and when rmagic comes out with the face plate change the stereo to a nav /dvd/cd player. i would also be willing to sell the nav for a lot less the what mazda wants for it. prob for around the cost of the gages + a little extra

To completely remove the navigation system from the car, you'll have to remove your entire interior and replace all the wiring harnesses between the ecu's, head unit, speakers, antennae, etc... Installation is opposite of removal - which should give you an idea of what an ordeal it would be to upgrade a non-navi car.

If you're planning on just selling the navi display, controller, and computer, I'll start the opening bid at $500.

I'd say $500 is actually a pretty generous offer.

I agree -- from the sounds of things, the $2000 Mazda charges for Nav is mostly for labor involved in installing it!

Is that why Mazda are charging $1500 for the display and motorised flip-up bit on it's own uninstalled?? And that's without the other bits...

$500 a steal, and we all know it. :p

I would also be interested in it for this money!

Actually, as soon as Youngpit gets this done and is ready to sell his Navi system, he'll post a thread in the RX-8 Parts For Sale/Wanted forum.... right?

Rmagic faceplate to replace the stock HU, correct? That'll be interesting considering the electronics feat it'll require. My guess is that it'll cost $500-800 (the 1DIN dash unit is around $500).

PG 96 of July issue of Super Street you say? I'll have to see if I can find that still. Ohara-san didn't mention anything about it to me, nor was it mentioned in the catalogs he sent me... interesting...
The electronics feat i was refering to is the well-known issue of the PCB behind the stock HU faceplate and the combined climate controls and the red LED display. All tied into the stock HU, so if you remove it without having invented something to replace it's function in this system, your climate controls and red LED display will no longer function.

Youngpit, just let us know about it when you do. It seems to me that you might have enough interest to get a sale here in this thread. Or you could get bothered for a long time by putting it up for sale in the 'correct' place...
Let me know either way...

Thanks.
