ND Faulty sensor?

Last weekend my coolant red light came on (right side of dashboard) yet my H/C gauge remained steady in the safe zone. I suspect a faulty sensor as it went out. It's come on a couple of times since yet goes out. Can my repairman test and find out it's a specific sensor right away or will he have to run it thru a battery of tests? Thank you!

It's a fairly common issue that I've read upon and experienced, It's stayed on through a full set of back road carving, the sensor goes bad after 40k miles or something

Mr. snook, Thanks so much for responding. I think I'll wait til my next auto change and take care of it then. Appreciate your response so much. Have a good night!

You did physically inspect the level in the coolant bottle, I hope. (?) While the sensor does go bad with some regularity, it isn't good to assume a warning is false. The temperature gauge on the dash is next to useless and won't warn of low coolant until it's too late.
