Factory Navigation unit draining battery
Factory Navigation unit draining battery
Its in a 2004. The previous owner apparently had issues with the battery dieing after 3 hrs. And a dealership says they unplugged it from behind the display unit because they say it was the draw ( I found this true, it was a 20 pin conecton or so). Whats my best option here? I've considered putting a relay on the power wire to it to accesory side of ignition, but I dont know if I will have to do that whole key on to accesory for 6 seconds every time I fire the car up( this I got from a tsb on how to reset the nav after disconection from power)? Any suggestions or how to test the circuits and find the draw spacificaly? Any help is much appriciated.
the nav shouldn't drain a battery, the system powers off.
have you had the battery checked?
any modifications to the electrical? (stereo, lighting, etc?)

alternator?

Well there would still be constant power going to the headunit, but the current draw should be close to nothing unless there is something seriously wrong with the system. I suppose you could somehow try and throw an ammeter between the yellow in the harness and the headunit to see what the current draw is when the ignition is off

I will try that thanks. And ya it shouldnt even be capable of drawing that much without catching on fire or something. Dealership doing some shady work, trying to get them to spend a bunch of money installing a new one possibly?
