DVD Player Install

Ok, I've searched all through here and I've read every aftermarket DVD install thread I've come across in the last week, but I still expect some heat for this:

Has anyone tried to run both the stock HU and an aftermarket in-dash dvd player?

In other words, would it be possible to disconnect the stock harness, splice the aftermarket DV player into it, and then reconnectthe stock HU so that sound COULD come out of both (not at the same time obviously)?

The reason I ask is that I've been reading about the whole HVAC controls problem, and with my upcoming install, I don't want to have to lose the look of my stock HU. I want the cleanest install and as close to stock as I can get it, so I'm going with the SpeedLine (I think that's them) dash center replacement piece to have the dvd player up top (better location for it anyway IMO).

Be gentle... LOL

it is possible to hook up the factory head unit so that the heat/ac still works, as well as the display, and have the sound come from the new head unit installed up top. thats the way i had my alpine installed, before i went and did things the right way with the corksport. by right, i mean replace the stock head unit with a new one, that way i dont have the screen up so high that it draws unwanted attention

Thanks Lurch!

I saw the Corksport kit, but that looks like double DIN only, and mine is a single DIN flip out screen. Also, if I went that route, I'd still have to rewire a LOT to get the stock LCD Display to work, no?

you can do either single din or double din. the factory lcd still works, though no clock, but that shouldnt be an issue as the new radio should have a clock built in.

Hmmm... thanks! I'll look into the single DIN then!
