Do you have any specific information? I mean is there a website maybe to check it out, or a manufacturer that does this kind of work?
Do you know if the screen can be used for showing anything else, like an equalizer for the CD player?

Yes, there have been one or two posts on the board regarding this, and I have seen pictures of the unit.

Unfortunately I don't know the urls off the top of my head, so as much as I hate it when people start saying to use the board's search, that would be your best starting point.

I like the idea of an in dash navi playing dvds, but haven't done anything because decent 7" portable units only run around $300.

Check out this link. Use the search to find how others have installed it.

i went there, all they have to do is clip 4 wires...i doubt that cost 500, i think for a few other cars it might be more expensive because there might be other things involved, but it seems with the 8's nav, its pretty simple

Just to clear things up, the Avelectronic unit is a video switcher that can show other video sources on your existing NAV screen. It is installed by splicing a few wires. It still requires a SEPARATE DVD player (or other prefered video source).

There isn't anything to make the existing NAV DVD drive play standard DVDs.

Too bad to hear that... I hoped it could be fixed, so that the screen could be used for other utilities...

By the way sputnik, did you know 'apotheosis' is a greek word?

The screen can be used or other utilities, it's just that you need something like the Avelectronic box to interface between a standard composite video input and the NAV screen, and to switch between the NAV and the different video inputs.

Yes, I knew that Apotheosis is a greek word. It's the title of a documentary that a friend of mine made (click on the picture for more on it).

Nice... :D The documentary seems cool. I had a quick look at the site, but I haven't seen two descent cars there: the suberb '99 nissan skyline and the amazing, uncanny, unbelievable... eeerr.... RX-8!!

(just kiddin' about the second one :D :D :D but I wish the 8 will be among the legends in the future)
