DVD

It will not play DVD's. There are a few big threads already started on this topic. Do a search. I talked to some guy at AVElectronic and he told me to take pictures and send him the Nav Schematic and he would try and make a conversion for it. There are a couple of other links you could check out too, from the threads.

This is a input you can buy so you can play dvds on the nav. However, This is not available yet and will cost around 3 or 4 hundred.

DVD & TV Tunner for NAV system

I recently added a TV Tuner & 10 DVD changer to my RX-8.

It's great for morning news & sports. The DVD player comes in handy in long road trips.

Go to AVElectronic they sold me the equipment:

Here's where the NavTV unit was installed:
NavTV unit and the DVD changer is in the trunk.

Good luck and enjoy!

Remind me to stay off the streets around Ft. Lauderdale. Doesn't anyone besides me see a problem with having DVD, TV tuner, Playstation, etc. capability in the driver's view? This is a REALLY bad idea. There are already too many distractions from driving, including cell phones, changing CD's, smoking, eating, and so on.

And I'm sure you're going to say "it's for the passenger's use, not the driver's". Bullsh**.

On a recent trip to Asheville, NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway, I was stuck for 30+ miles driving behind a Ford SUV (Expedition? Excursion? I'm not sure); the driver was all over the road (LITERALLY). He kept running off the side and into the oncoming lane (this is a 2-lane road, remember). I thought he was drunk, until I noticed (it was after dark) that there was a cartoon of some sort playing on the drop-down LCD screen. In this vehicle, apparently the screen drops down in front, not in back. The DVD was in there for his kids (who I could see in the back seat), but it was clear he wasn't missing out on the action on the screen either.

I kept flashing my lights at him when he ran off the road or into the other lane, hoping he'd get the message and start paying attention to driving. Unfortunately, he merely pulled over and let me pass; I'm sure he went right back to driving the same way when he got back on the road.

jtim: It's all dependant on the driver. I plan on adding LCD's and whatnot. Saying it's for the passenger is true, if I have one. But mainly it's for my hobbie. Just because it's there doesnt mean I will use it all the time and kill someone by not being careful. I dont smoke in my car. I refuse to use the cell phone while driving, etc. In other words, *I* am carefull. Just cause others arent doesnt mean the whole concept is bad.
