DSC Control Button

Hey guys,

This requires the expertise of someone much smarter than me.

My RX8 has four buttons to the left of the steering wheel (as I'm sure many do) one is the lighting control, another is the DSC control switch and the other two are blanks.

Does anyone know if you can buy extra switches, I'm assuming the blanks are there if you want to add something later. I think I've found the part from the parts catalog though it's hard to say for sure.

The other question I have is if anyone knows how the things are rigged. I.E. do these switches have to be programmed to work with whatever computer chip the car uses or are they just like normal electrical wiring or whatnot.

These may be stupid questions but everyone has been so helpful here I'm hoping I'll get an answer.

Any help would be much appreciated!

There aren't any other OEM buttons to go there but you can add aftermarket buttons onto it. A lot of people put Subwoofer switches/*****, nitrous switches, aftermarket fog light switches, etc.

Do you know where I could find any examples, I saw someone who drilled a hole through one of the blanks and put one of the metal nos switches in it but I'm looking for something that looks a little more like it was designed to be there.

I'm looking for the same thing. Is there a part number or a place to buy the factory DSC switch, I'll just mod it.

I'd post in the WTB RX8 Parts forum. There's alot of people with wrecked, parted out 8s that might have one pretty cheap. GL

there's a post somewhere of someone modding the blank and turning it into a switch. You'd have to search to find it but it's here. It was very clean and looked completely stealth.

i like that....I'm guessing you can just remove those place holders and mod to use those as a switch brace?

I think on European models there is another switch for something like the light sprayers or something.

The light sprayer are also on the Cdn model....and they work from the windshield washer 3 pulls will automatically spray the lights.....you can also force them but I never do it pretty useless if you ask me...

Believe they have a switch for the rear Fog light

I did my front/rear camera mod here (https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/front-camera-168599/) and I used a factory OEM switch that I relabelled. All I did was go to my Mazda parts dealer and ask for a DSC switch – took the guy two minutes to find the catalogue number. The switch has four connections: two for backlit illumination and two for the switch itself. (The illumination is from a small bulb, so polarity is unimportant.) Electrically, it is no different to any momentary SPST push button you can get from Radio Shack.

You LHDers are lucky - you get two switch blanks: we get only one.
