Scosche Products Inc. is one of the largest manufactures of aftermarket dash conversion kits. The salesperson who answered the phone told me there are currently no plans to create a conversion kit for the RX-8. It looks to me like the CD player is DIN sized with a lot of plastic around it.

It stands to reason there might be a Japanese parts maker that has this kit. Getting a custom face done is going to cost a lot of money. Does anyone out there know if such a product exists?

Looking at the work RotaryGod is doing gave me the idea to make a mold out of the existing faceplate and work something up in fiberglass. Once the faceplate looks good I could take it down to a local paint and body shop to get sanded and painted.

 

The shape of the thing is only one aspect. The integrated electronics is another.

My dream ... a carbon fibre replacement for the entire centre section, from the windscreen to the gearshift, then back all the way, including the tunnel, to the rear seats ... to much?
