Custom gauge pod w/ pics

So I got sick of waiting for PTP to get caught up on their orders for gauge pods so I decided to make my own. I used to work at Sounds Solutions in MD and had an awesome teacher who showed me the ropes of doing custom fiberglass.

This one isn't painted yet, and the underside needs a little cleaning up (not that it would be seen, but that's just me being compulsive) but I should get around to that tomorrow. I decided to go with the stock dash color and texture instead of the gloss black that PTP does. Here's a few pics before the texture and a few pics after the texture. I'll post a pic of the final painted piece tomorrow. This turned out pretty well and if anyones interested I'm thinking about making a few more to sell, I can do either the stock textured look or the gloss black that ptp does.

Well this ones going in my car since I've had my boost gauge stickied onto my dash for the past two months and I can't deal with that anymore, but if anyone's intersted I am thinking about making a few more to sell.

Please let me know how much it would be. It would be nice to have a cheaper alternative to the PTP, that wouldn't take a month+ to receive. Nice work btw!

If you decide to make a few more I would take one. Let us know what you are thinking for a price.

Looks awesome so far.

Thanks,
Trevor

Sorry for the doulbe post but why dont' you just be a vendor? like side-strake vendor the other guy did, so that upon request, you can pump out a few and sell it.

Nice glassing. I would have liked to see images before you applied the white primer. (I know how to glass as well and am just as interested in seeing how it was done as what the finished part looks like.)

Thanks for all the compliments, I am pretty happy with the turn out. Hopefully I can get it painted either today or tomorrow and then get it installed by this weekend. I'll make sure to post some pics of the installed version once its in.

I don't think I'm allowed to post a price on here since I'm not a vendor, but PM me and I'll let you know what I'm thinking.

Looks excellent.

Honestly, with such fiberglassing skills, you should think about creating a nice 1-DIN slot similar to what R-Magic did. I didn't like that one because it needs to be glued onto the stock piece, but if you could make a panel that gives a DIN slot instead of the gauge pod, I'd definitely buy one.

Is that a possibility?

I'm talking about something like this or the pics in this post.
Basically, a replacement dash top piece that allows mounting a DIN-sized component at the same location like your gauges, with the exact same finish you selected.
The one in these pics is made by R-Magic, a Japanese company and it has to be glued onto the existing stock trimpiece. I'd much prefer a real pod that has the proper clips instead of messing with glue. If the part would utilize the stock trim piece, that's OK as long as the fiberglass is seamlessly integrated with it.

I bet there would be several people who'd be interested in buying such a part if the price is right.
The price for the glue-on R-Magic piece was $456.75 USD in an attempted group buy last year. That's not reasonable in my book

If there was enough interest in it I could do it. Just like with anything the first one is always the hardest, the following ones are always much easier. If I made just one, it would have to be kinda pricey, but if I sold a few it would get much cheaper. I would say at least 4-5 people would be enough to get the price to be reasonable.

I don't think that would be too difficult though, actually looks easier than the gauge pod was. But I'll probably make a few more of the pods before starting on any new projects.

The pod is painted. I had to fool around with the texture a bit to get it to match the factory, but I think it turned out pretty darned close. I'll try to get it installed tomorrow, but I have a few other things I have to do, so it might have to b Thursday.
