Custom dash for LCD

I have bought all the parts for my carputer and now i'm ready to install it. Just one problem, I don't know how to. I want to make something like the photos below...well no, I want to make exactly that. So my question is how does someone that has never worked with plastic or fiberglass do it? I read some where that fiberglass won't even stick to plastic, is that true?. So, please tell me all that I need to know to do this correctly. (Photos from TRU861)

BTW- I've already got the computer installed in the car. I'm just stuck on this last very important part.

Thanks,
Rasp

You need to toally rough up the surface for the glass or liquid plastic to adhere to, next it needs to be cleaned thoroughly to remove any impurities that would keep the peices from bonding. Go to these sites and post the questions there. www.hzemall.com and www.the12volt.com in this forum. http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...ics.asp?FID=16

Though you can do it in fiberglass, I don't think any of the custom pods have looked as good or as close to an OEM part as the real Mazda aftermarket NAV tray.

You can get that from several different places. Canzoomer has them as well as Thew.

It will get stolen no faster than anything else you put there.

That top panel can be ripped out pretty easily by a pro, no matter how you make it.

Mine looks stock, so there is less temptation - most thieves want universal parts.

Mazdamaniac,

I am new around here and don't many people on here, but I have quick question about your aftermarket nav tray from mazda. Is it stationary, or does it motorize up and down?

Secondly, if I wanted to purchase this tray, where do i go to get it? thanks.

Well, you can just pop the panel out if you want to.
I have mine bolted down pretty completely, so it isn't easy to remove, but if you leave out the two screws behind the air vents, you can just unclip it and lift it out.

I wouldn't recommend installing anything of any real value in a car that was parked for any length of time in an uncontrolled environment. If you need to park in a public place for an extended time, get a beater.

Well, I would glue/bolt it down. I was just wondering if I could remove just the screen when I park at school. Can I just unplug the cables and take it off? I have the same screen as you do, how did you mount the screen to the tray? Does it move when you press the touchscreen?

The screen is bolted through the bottom and the back. There is a thumbscrew on the bottom and a sliding bracket on the back with a tensioner.
There are also foam inserts to stabilize it, so it is rock steady when you touch it.
The panel needs to come off to remove the monitor.

Since my windows are tinited, it is damn near impossible to see inside the car with a sun shade up.

could someone post a pic of what the connections look like (and orientation) for the wires and mounting... i'd like to do this if either a cover could be made or if something like a docking station could be fab'd up that wouldn't look horrible when the screen is not hooked up

Devoid,
What is that screen at the base of your parking break for? Also very nice custom work on the dash unit.
