Unhappy Cracked Buttons?

I got my car washed & detailed today (Actually, my company did it, since they asked me to work today), and I noticed when I got back in it, the two defroster buttons had cracked. The left one was cracked almost all the way through the middle. The right one looked like maybe the edge was just going to chip off.

I'm fairly certain I didn't do it, and I will be filing a complaint with the company, but I can't imagine the plastic buttons cracking that much or that fast just while someone's detailing it... The cracks are on opposite sides, too, so it doesn't look like something smashed into it to cause the cracks, either.

Anyone else have any problems with really fragile plastic buttons on their center console?

Seems to me someone else had this problem a while back, and Mazda fixed it under warranty. In fact, there might even be a TSB on it.

I found this TSB:

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...cs/07-003.html

But it's for the ***** on either side. The buttons that cracked are in the middle. :P

I guess I'll just have to see if Mazda'll cover it, and if not, get my boss to pay for it. :P

I have the same issue also!!.... not sure when it happened. I thought mine was heat related though. My right defrost button is cracked also almost clean through from corner to corner. I am afraid to touch it.

Mazda should cover it. Go in with the assumption that they will and don't let them say no. If you go in assuming they won't, they may pick up on that attitude and deny the repair.

Here's the tread. I thought there was a TSB on this too. But it's not on the Rosenthal list. Perhapse pulled ??? My switch, all three circles under head unit are one switch, was replaced by dealer.

Yup, that's the crack. Wow, mine looks almost identical, too... Guess I'll just call 'em up and have it fixed.

I *did* search, by the way, but I searched for "Cracked button" not "cracked switch".

Exclamation Broke buttons on 5-way pad

Here is an example of my broken button for everyone to see so were all on the same page. Is this more common then I thought? I figured the Texas heat had something to do with this but I am not sure.

That looks like a mirror image of my problem. The button most seriously cracked is on the one on the left, but the crack goes from the lower outside diagonally up to the right, almost all the way through.

I just noticed today that my defrost buttons are cracking as well . Mines are just starting to crack on the side though. Maybe i noticed a little earlier? I just cleaned it up this past saturday and didn't notice it. At any rate... i will be calling my local service department shortly to see about getting them fixed.

Mine is not as severe...just a little crack on the side of the same button, but I only had the car for two days when I noticed it...I had never even cleaned the car yet!

The Search button rocks!!

My AC/temp **** broke last week. I was wondering what the H@#$? All the cars that I have owned, and this freaky thing happens.

Yesterday I tried superglue. NOT.

I used the search and found the TSB and I'm on it. It gives me an excuse to drive to Redlands.

I wonder if this is the same on all the mazdas that have this type of controls.

regards,

Bill
